2012 is shaping up to be an unforgettable year in the celebration of fashion. Definitive exhibitions are popping up all over the globe honoring fashion greats both past and present. As we awe over the recently opened Schiaparelli and Prada exhibit at The Metropolitan, our style savvy counterparts across the pond are lining up for an equally exciting view inside the heritage of Hermes. Leather Forever examines the brand’s love affair with the luxury material as they showcase their unique design and craftsmanship that makes this year’s 175th anniversary possible.
As you may have heard—Betsey is bankrupt! Well, not Betsey exactly. Neither the brand nor its eccentric creative director is involved, but the licensing firm that operates Betsey Johnson boutiques filed Chapter 11 a little more than two weeks ago. While this is unfortunate news for 54 BJ boutiques and 9 outlets around the nation, it seems there’s a silver lining for loyal Betsey shoppers. For a cool $5.2 million, two retail liquidation firms have partnered to take the remaining inventory off the hands of the shuttering shops. A major going-out-of-business sale began last Friday and will run until all merchandise has been sold.
What do you do when your storefront gets vandalized with graffiti? Call the police? Cry? Scrub it off? No. You do as Marc Jacobs does and you just make a really, really expensive t-shirt. Like, $700 expensive. In light of Jacobs' SoHo storefront being vandalized with "Art" by a graffiti artist named Kidult last week, the eccentric designer decided to once again do the unexpected.
He's now offering a baby pink t-shirt with a photo of the vandal's artwork that reads "Art by Art Jacobs." If you don't have rent to pay, food to buy, or like basic common sense, run down to your local Marc Jacobs boutique and drop $680 plus tax on this baby now!
As summer begins, we start to spend more and more time at the beach or poolside. For this reason, it’s crucial that we rock bathing suits we love to show off. However, sometimes teeny weenie bikinis come with big fat price tags. Some are great investments, but in reality, do we really want to be spending over $100 on two small pieces of fabric that will be getting wet and soaked with chlorine or salt water? Spend that extra cash towards another piece for your summer wardrobe and check out one of these hot bikinis we love that are right on trend and even better, under $50!
For years, and years we have connected the brand Christian Louboutin to sky-high stilettos. They're so conspicuous we can spot their bright red soles from miles away! The who’s who of the fashion elite and those who could only dream of wearing a pair watch in admiration as they saunter by. Needless to say, the Paris-based fashion designer has taken the shoe and handbag world by storm, so what’s next on his list? Louboutin has decided to embark on a new venture into the beauty industry where he will be partnering up with New York-based Batallure Beauty LLC.
This season’s “it” shoe is the wedge sneaker and it’s giving new meaning to the term ‘high-tops.' Wedge sneakers made their first appearance a few years back (between 2006 and 2007) and came in a style that made fashionistas a bit skeptical. After some revision, they made a second lap around the style scene in late 2011 with the emergence of Isabel Marant’s Bekket high-tops and became a hit to style leaders everywhere. Now, it seems, every celebrity from Beyonce to Dakota Fanning is stepping out wearing these sky-high sneaks.
On the streets this week, there have been sights of denim, studs, stripes and mint green everywhere and we love how these street chic fashionistas have incorporated the latest trends into their personal sense of style. Take a peek at some of the amazing bold looks we found and get inspiration to rock these styles in your summer wardrobe!

Fashion’s Night Out, the much-anticipated annual event in which shoppers, bloggers, designers, retailers, photographers, and editors alike take to the streets to shop, party, and celebrate fashion all night long is getting even bigger. Courtesy of our fearless fashion leader Anna Wintour, (she created the big night in 2009 to boost retail in a slumping economy) FNO events have been popping up across the nation from Charleston, SC to Kansas City, MO. Not only is FNO the biggest party to kickoff fall/winter New York Fashion Week, it’s a fashion ‘holiday’ that connects the industry no matter where you are celebrating. It’s kind of like the New Year’s of fashion—the party gets bigger the more people you know are joining in!
