Insomniac understands electronic music. The concert production company has spent the last two decades bringing EDM to new popularity heights with festivals across the country, including their iconic music-festival-meets-amusement-park Electric Daisy Carnival.
Born in 2007 as a one-day festival in Southern California, Electric Daisy Carnival offers house heads a chance to see their favorite DJs whilst riding ferris wheels, bumper cars, carousels and more.
Since its creation, the festival has grown exponentially in size, traveling from coast to coast with stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, Orlando, and most recently last weekend when it debuted at MetLife Stadium for EDC New York.
It’s clear from all the buzz The Avengers and The Dark Knight have generated that comic book characters are still a pretty huge aspect of our culture, and for good reason! We’ve always needed heroes and there may not be a time that we won’t. The comic book universe has given us something we can’t find anywhere else. Its long history has given us heroes with every power we can imagine and just about any story we could want. It’s a strange and great combination of writing and illustration that’s an art all while largely not being considered one. Comics are still, by and large, considered for kids, despite years and years of movie success and a demographic switch aimed at adult white males. People of every age and gender walked out of The Avenger with a favorite hero, and that was only a team of 5.

This past Friday, May 11th, famed rapper 50 Cent showed his support of hunger relief at City Harvest's Food Rescue Facility in NYC. He was joined by his audio company SMS Audio. The company recently partnered with Feeding America, where each purchase on SMSAudio.com in the US provides over 200 meals to hungry Americans. The rapper volunteered with City Harvest in Long Island City to bring attention to the difficulty many Americans face putting food on the table. In addition to helping pack fresh produce for City Harvest to distribute to local New York families, 50 Cent also toured the Food Rescue Facility with City Harvest director Jilly Stephens. Do as 50 does and get involved in charity! See below for some of City Harvest's upcoming events.
Memorial Day weekend is almost here and with it comes parties, barbecues, beach time, and lots, and lots, of fun activities. Now we just need to figure out what to wear! Whether you're hitting the Hamptons, Cape Cod, or Miami you'll need great style. Here are a few great summery essentials we love that include trends of the season from floral prints, to white, bright, and color blocking. It’s time to start packin’!
Clutch or Bag- That is the question!
Whether it is an all weekend event, or a couple hours for the day, make your choice of handbag accordingly. We love these summery styles as the blue and white stripe clutch by Rag & Bone shows a little nautical spirit, and Club Monaco’s Goldie Moroccan Bag has that beachy feel to it with the wicker weave and the gold-dipped bottom.
It seems like every week a new festival is popping up somewhere around the country. I don't mean that in a sarcastic way, of course. In fact, nothing is more exciting than new festivals, well, almost nothing anyway. For those of you living in Miami, you've got another one on your doorstep. Sure you already have Ultra, but I mean, hey, two is always better than one, right?
The brand-spankin-new UR1 festival is set to hit "Magic City" Dec. 8-9. Not much information is out at the moment, but we'll be sure to keep you posted. For now, join us in compulsively watching this teaser vid's production quality as we wait, fingers crossed, for the lineup announcement. Check back here for the latest news.
If you haven't already heard, EDM is a big deal now. A worldwide phenomenon (with the US joining the party a bit late...) dance music has become a major force not only in the music industry, but in the business world at large. From the slew of festivals popping up every month to concerts, shows, parties and nightclubs, the business side of EDM is taking on a life of its own; a fact that has not gone unnoticed by industry leaders.
Next month, Insomniac is hosting EDMbiz, the first of its kind conference focusing on the business side of EDM and all that this entails. The list of guest speakers is extensive, ranging from artists to record executives, promoters to internet entrepreneurs. With a jam packed schedule of keynote addresses, panel discussions and presentations, the air will be thick with new ideas. As EDM takes its place at the forefront of popular music, and thus the forefront of the music industry, the folks at Insomniac and the rest of the sponsors of EDMbiz are looking to progress not only the music, but the thought and ideology of the movement as well.
Dubbed the "kings of the progressive scene" by Beatport, Sultan and Ned Shepard continue to capture listeners and top electronic charts with their music. Known for producing some of the most successful remixes in the world of EDM for artists such as Morgan Page, Dirty Vegas, and Madonna, the two have also proven themselves in the field of original production - their track "Call My Name" featuring Nadia Ali held on to the number 1 spot on Beatport's electro charts. Having just had their latest single "Walls" released on Tiesto's Clublife: Volume 2, Sultan and Ned gave us the inside scoop before taking us into the DJ booth for their performance at LIV Miami.

Diplo mentioned/hinted at/alluded to his new EP Express Yourself all the way back in December 2011. Since then, all has been silent for the most part. In February, the title track form the EP was released as a single to much acclaim on the Mad Decent imprint. Featuring Nicky Da B, it's a pretty classic take on a bounce track, full of energy and some serious hooks.
Finally, after much anticipation, the EP is slated for release on June 12 on Mad Decent. While this is no guarantee given the long and mysterious nature of this journey, hopes are high for an actual release this time. Collaborating with Nicky Da B, Elephant man, GTA and a slew of others, Express Yourself is sure to set many a dance floor on fire next month.
