Vegans, rejoice! Sudo Shoes, Boston's very first all-vegan shoe store, is now open.
Located in Cambridge's Porter Square, this exciting new store sells a great variety of shoes, bags, belts and wallets that contain absolutely no leather, wool or animal-based glues. The majority of the shoes are also fair-trade and sustainable, the most notable being the Olsen Haus 2010 collection, which is made out of--get this-- recycled TV screens. The difference between the brands that Sudo carries and the cheap synthetics one would get at a discount store is that, while cheaper shoes are made out of vinyl, Sudo's high-end vegan footwear is made out of microfibers that are breathable, able to stretch easily and last as long as leather.
At Sudo, there is something for everyone, no matter what you're looking for. There are stiletto heels, sneakers, flats, casual boots, hiking boots and even baby shoes. The store also carries all price ranges, typically between $35 and $400. Since its soft opening this September, a large amount of Sudo's customers have been people in the neighborhood who were just walking by and had no idea that they were shopping at a vegan store. If you're in the area, stop by and see that, as the sign in the window says, "These shoes are unreal!"
