Part of Jamaica Plain’s appeal to the entertainment seeking crowd is its large collection of diverse and eclectic neighborhood bars, lounges, and venues. Among the many that exist in this hip neighborhood, The Midway Café has proven to be one of the best venues for catching a local show. The Midway Café, open since the late 80’s, has provided Jamaica Plain with an astounding collection of live shows that you can’t see anywhere else in the Boston area ranging from rockabilly to surf rock to jazz and yes, even swing. Mostly locals frequent The Midway Café, but don’t be alarmed because this dive bar welcomes all people from all walks of life. In fact, the Midway Café hosts one of Boston’s most popular lesbian nights. Several media outlets like the Weekly Dig, The Boston Pheonix, and Rolling Stone Magazine have praised the Midway Café, making it a premier venue for underground music.
Eats & Drinks
No food is served at Midway Café, but you can bet they have a fully stocked bar. Let the good times roll as soon as you get your hands on one of Midway Café’s strongly poured drinks or well-priced beers. Drink as many beers as your stomach can handle because as the night wears on, you’ll find that drinking at the Midway Café doesn’t clear out your checking account.
Ambience
Embrace the intimate atmosphere at the Midway Café. The small stage allows the bands to come into close contact with the audience, making for an amazing concert experience. When an unknown band isn’t playing, the Midway Café usually hosts interesting and unique events like Queeraoke, a Thursday LBGT friendly karaoke night.
