Late last week, some of our favorite celebs stepped out in New York City to celebrate the Season 3 premiere of Master of the Mix, hosted by Smirnoff Vodka and VH1. Master of the Mix, for those of you who don't know, is a VH1 reality show where DJs battle head-to-head to earn the title of Master of the Mix and a $250,000 grand prize. The premiere party took place at the newly reopened Marquee Nightclub in NYC where guests sipped on signature Smirnoff cocktails, including the Vinyl Collection, The Backspin, and more. The party kicked off with an official welcome from the show's host Amanda Seales, followed by a super trailer of the season. Master of the Mix judge DJ Mia Moretti hit the 1s and 2s accompanied by electric violinist Caitlin Moe, followed by DJ Kid Capri, also a judge on the show. World class DJ Erick Morillo is set to perform a live set to fans on Saturday, February 16 at MIXX at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa with special guest Funkagenda. A veteran DJ, Morillo has been in the scene since the early 90s and is best known for his international work in house music. He has been linked with the label Strictly Rhythm and produced the 1993 hit "I Like to Move It," which he produced under the pseudonym Reel 2 Real. His label Subliminal Records has produced the #1 Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play hit "Fun" by Da Mob, and won the Muzik Magazine Remixer of the Year award in 1999.
On Friday, Feb. 8, The MID and React welcome the return of Mad Decent's BAAUER along with the legendary, hip-hop producer, Just Blaze to a wild and crazy edition of MAYHEM at the MID!
Brooklyn bad boy and Trap star, Baauer gained a lot of attention and praise with his signature blend of future crunk and trap music. He broke into the limelight with his smash single, "Harlem Shake" earlier this year which recieved major play in mixes and clubs everywhere. In response, the track lead to him being picked up by Diplo's infamous Mad Decent Records, which helped jumpstart Baauer’s career. His influences are heavily drawn from southern rap and the UK bass sound that are fused together for an innovative sound that has bass-heads hooked all across the globe.
One of the most famous hip-hop DJs in the world, New Jersey born, Just Blaze worked closely with Roc-a-Fella Records in the early 2000s. He'sproduced hits like Cam’ron’s “Oh Boy,” Jay-Z’s “Girls, Girls, Girls,” and Beanie Sigel and Freeway’s “Rock the Mic.” He worked closely with Roc-a-Fella’s other in-house producer, Kanye West, on the label’s many albums released during this same period. And like West, he developed a trademark knack for using old-school soul samples in unique ways for his hooks.
