There is nothing more comforting than eating a home-cooked meal with friends and family. The whole experience envelops you with warm, fuzzy feelings. Eating out is a whole other ball game. Long waits to get a table, rude staff, and a less-than-satisfying meal turn a night out with friends into a nightmare. But what if you could actually eat a home-cooked meal without all the hassles? Enter Celebration Restaurant. Since 1971, Celebration Restaurant has been satisfying our cravings for homestyle food. In these times of economic uncertainty, I am always amazed when a restaurant continues to be so successful. Owner Ed Lowe says the key to him staying in business for over 30 years is “well-prepared simple food served by friendly people in a comfortable, unpretentious setting.”

And when I said Celebration serves homestyle food, I wasn’t kidding. Think grilled pork chops, meatloaf with mushroom sauce, slow-cooked pot roast. And don’t miss the fried chicken. Fried to order, it’s Dallas Observer Editor’s pick for the best fried chicken in the city. Sides are served family-style and you can even request seconds (for equal or lesser value). And in keeping with the times, Chef John Stout uses fresh local vegetables, grass-fed, hormone-free steaks and organic grits.

Celebration Restaurant also offers a market menu, for those nights when you can’t tear yourself away from your comfy couch. Simply go on their site with a few clicks of the mouse, you can order their weeknight dinners for 2 ($15) or 4 ($28).

People return to Celebration Restaurant again and again not only for the quality food, but because Ed really cares about his community. He is the president of Friends of Brazos River, a non-profit group whose mission is to keep the beautiful Brazos River clean for future generations. He’s also a guide for Texas Water Trails, devoting his time to introducing kids to the beauty and importance of nature through camping and hiking trips.

Between Chef John’s scrumptious home cookin’ and Ed’s down-to-earth business attitude, we can rest assured that Celebration Restaurant will remain our go-to spot for at least another 30 years. “The basics are the same. Do a great job and people come back and tell their friends.” Well said.
