If you're looking for a way to switch up your normal weekend routine, test your drinking skills and appreciation for unique beers by trying "The Miracle Mile" at The Mile Square in Hoboken.
The bar, located at 221 Washington Street, challenges its patrons to try 4 oz of each of its 30 domestic and imported beers on tap. The one-time cost is $40, which gets you a scorecard to mark off each beer. You can take as long (or as short) as you'd like to finish the challenge.
"A lot of people think they can do it in one sitting," says Evan Abraczinskas, a bartender at The Mile Square. But he says even the determined may struggle when they get to the stronger beers like Golden Monkey with 10.5% alcohol, and Dogfish 120 with 23% alcohol. Watching people down 30 kinds of beer in a matter of a couple hours can certainly get interesting, he says.
Most people space out The Miracle Mile over a number of weekends, while others come early and make it a whole day event. Evan says it also draws in people entertaining friends from out of town. "It gives people a chance to open their minds a bit. A lot of people come in and just drink Miller Lite, and then they find a new one they like," he says.
The bar has recently come under new ownership and new specials and events have been drawing bigger crowds on the weekends, Evan says. The bar now features beer pong, a DJ on Fridays, and live acoustic on Saturdays.
A new menu includes the traditional bar finger foods like wings, nachos and quesadillas, as well as dinners like the Arizona chicken wrap, Penne vodka, and fish and chips.
