Sarah Palin took a seat on Jay Leno's couch Tuesday night to chat and giggle and all that other nonsense guests do on late-night talk shows. Once the two were done catching up, Leno announced that Palin was going to make her "comedy debut" (apparently SNL doesn't count). The former Governor of Alaska took to the stage and performed a pretty decent stand-up routine. She joked about the things you'd expect: Alaska (it's so cold there it's "5 degrees below Congress' approval rating"), not being the vice president ("I would not know what to do with all that free time), and of course, Tina Fey ("I have been really busy, I've picked up a gig in Las Vegas, at the Legends show, playing Tina Fey.")
Since making this last comment, Palin has (once again) become the center of a media frenzy. The cast of Legends in Concert responded to the joke by sending the vice presidential candidate an invitation to join the show in Vegas any time.
Sounds like a sweet deal to me. I mean, Fey got an Emmy for her Palin. Maybe Palin's given up on politics and is looking to EGOT (win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, & Tony). A funny-enough Fey impression could possibly catapult Palin all the way to an Emmy of her own one day. Or maybe even an Oscar for her feature length biopic, I Want To Go To There: The Tina Fey Story. A girl can dream, can't she?
Legends in Concert is the one of the longest-running shows on the strip, beginning in 1983 at the Imperial Palace before moving next door to Harrah's last year. The show features live re-creations of celebrity superstars throughout the ages and a live, on-stage orchestra with dancers. The incredibly talented stars of Legends give such good performances of icons like Elvis, The Blues Brothers, Tom Jones, and Shania Twain that you might even doubt you aren't witnessing a real concert.
Do you think Palin will accept Legends' offer? There's a good chance she will, and sooner than you might think, too.
Never one to shy away from publicity, it wouldn't be a shock if we saw Palin hit the Strip later this month when she's in Searchlight, NV as the keynote speaker for the Mega Tea Party Showdown Tour. It is only a thirty-minute drive on I-15 from Searchlight to Vegas and you know what they say, anything can happen in Vegas...
