Gloria Estefan has received so many awards during her three decades in the limelight that there is an entire Wikipedia page dedicated just to listing them. And now Vegas has added another honor to the acclaimed performer.
On April 29, The Las Vegas Walk of Stars presented Gloria and her husband Emilio, the former band leader of Miami Sound Machine, with their own star. This is the first time a couple has ever been jointly recognized on the walkway.
The ceremony took place at the Crown Theater inside the Rio at 2. The star was then placed on the sidewalk in front of the Flamingo at 4 pm on April 30.
The couple has been busy over the years, though they've stayed out of the public eye for the most part. They recently finished a Latin American tour and Gloria is releasing a new album sometime next year. Emilio also promised that his wife would be back to perform again in Vegas sometime later this year.
While in town, Emilio autographed copies of his book Rhythm of Success at Barnes & Noble.
"It's a motivational memoir that chronicles the journey from being a Cuban refugee and arriving in Miami and going after the American dream," Emilio explained. "It was four weeks in the No. 1 position of the sales chart."
Emilio is no stranger to success, and neither is his wife. He is an exceptionally successful music producer, helping develop the careers of performers such as Shakira, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Jon Secada and more. He has been nominated for 30 Grammy Awards, and if that wasn't enough he won 19 of them! Gloria has also won seven Grammys and sold more than 90 million records. She also was the first female pop star to perform for the Pope and the first Hispanic female to be named Songwriter of the Year by BMI.

Jeez, talk about a power couple.
"Gloria has done so well over the years," Emilio said, "and we love Las Vegas. It's a great city, and we've always had a good time there. We've both been working very hard, but we always have a lot of fun, and this was the perfect time to come to Las Vegas."
"We decided to accept the honor of a Las Vegas star because millions of people will walk by it over time because it's there forever. We are the first couple to have a star together. There are very few couples on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Gloria has a single star there."
The Estefan's star is the 48th addition to the Las Vegas Walk of Stars, which honors celebrities who have helped shape Las Vegas entertainment. The first star was presented to Wayne Newton in 2004.
