This past spring, Bin 73 opened on the corner of Washington Blvd. after the closing of Naked Sushi, the building's former occupant. The adjacent restaurant Mercedes Grill bought the space, redesigned the interior, and Bin 73 was born.
This is one of the first eateries to open up at the dead-end of Washington Blvd.—the line of demarcation between Marina del Rey and Venice Beach. The restaurant has commissioned on the wall a living art piece (aka plants that think they're cool), which has become all the rage in San Francisco. Baskets of succulents grow upside down all along the ceiling and add a forest-y type feeling to the eatery. The attention to plants and the rustic modern, minimalist decor gives a nice Napa Valley ambiance.
Bin 73 is actually quite small which surprisingly adds to its allure. The primary set up is outside where an awning covers small tables, chairs and comfy cushions. There is no inside seating aside from the bar, however, there is a small wine tasting window.
The wine list is respectable but not award winning. Aside from the $3, 3 oz. tasters at the wine tasting window, the beer and wine at the bar and for the tables are $7 for 7 oz. If you come during the 4pm-7pm happy hour you can get the daily offering of 7 oz. drinks for $5. They also have small dishes and $3 snacks to pair with your wine. Ultimately, at Bin 73, you come for the wine and close-knit rugged decor - you might have to fill your belly somewhere else.
