A Recessionista's Paradise: The Rose Bowl Flea Market
The Pasadena Flea Market is the Perfect Vintage Getaway this Sunday April 8th!

Rose Bowl Flea Market
Any thrift store buff can only dream of walking into a football stadium filled with the most beautiful         vintage clothing from around the globe. If this image conjures the most excited butterflies, then look no further than Pasadena's Rose Bowl Flea Market. The self-proclaimed 'World's Most Unusual Flea Market' takes place the second Sunday of every month. The event boasts over 2,500 vendors who sell everything from the best of the best 1980's crop tops all the way to Grandma's fabriche egg. Above all, it is the flea market's eclectic atmosphere that will make you happy you ditched The Gap and headed down to Pasadena for your newest outfit.

Just because there's over one hundred yards of outlandish vintage paraphernalia, does not mean you can arrive fashionably late. No, this is the one time where showing up early will make you look cooler. Beyond the free giveaways for the first 10,000 buyers, you'll need to come prepared to peruse the gorgeous merchandise. Why the rush you may ask? Californians are usually as "laid back" as they come, but not when they're in pursuit of the best vintage clothes in SoCal. Beware of merchandisers who have trained vintage eyes. These slaves to the fashion game are the reason you arrive early otherwise you'll be missing out. If it's the 'cream of the crop' you want, suggested arrival time is 9 am, and don't forget to bring an old lady grocery cart to carry your goods. The crazier you look the better!

While you can use credit/debt cards at certain vendors, it's advisable you show up with cash. Rumor has it there are a few ATM machines on the outskirts of the flea market, but it will cost you $5 in service charges. Another perk of carrying around greenbacks is the possibility of bargaining down some deals. Most of the vendors are friendly and willing to negotiate if you are reasonable in your asking price. Tip of the trip, bargaining time is usually a little later in the day, catch the vendors around 1:30-2 PM to start haggling down prices.

It is easy to be overwhelmed by the flea market's crowds. If it's vintage clothing that you want make a bee line straight to the outer left side of the market. But keep your hunting eyes on. Things can get vicious, especially when it comes to the bargain bins. Stand your ground because the treasures to be found are well worth the pandemonium.

The next Rose Bowl Flea Market takes place this Sunday April 8, 2012! General admission for the event is $8 and begins at 9 AM. For more information visit their website. Happy Shopping!
