Seven-year-old
Christopher James Greicius got to be a police officer for a day. Christopher had been battling leukemia and his dream had always been to be a police officer. That dream came true on April 29th, 1980 when Chris got to travel in a Department of Public Safety helicopter and got a tailored-made police uniform. Chris passed away on May 3, 1980. But the happiness brought upon by a wish-come-true did not go unnoticed. Chris' mom, Linda Bergendahl-Pauling and two partners created the Chris Greicius Make-A-Wish Memorial which later became the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Since 1983 it has been working to bring joy and hope for children under life-threatening conditions.
Since Chris' dream, Make-A-Wish has come a long way, now granting 544 wishes each year. This year the Southern Florida Chapter is hosting it's 13th Annual Make-A-Wish Dream Date Auction with all proceeds going to the foundation. Last year's event raised enough money to grant 12 kids their heartfelt wishes. On July 29th the OPIUM Nightclub at the Hard Rock in Hollywood will be hosting some of Florida's most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes who will be up for auction along with a date package.
Tickets for the event are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. VIP tickets are available for $40. You can buy your tickets here.
