Cocktails And Desserts From A Tropical Eden
Sundy House offers two desserts and a martini using fruit from its own gardens

Sundy House
Locavore.  That seems to be the word on the proverbial gastronomic street these days, and chefs seem to be going to great pains to bring diners produce, meats, cheeses, honeys, and libations that are as local as possible.  However, it seems as if Sundy House in Delray Beach has every farm-to-table restaurant in South Florida beat when it comes to shrinking the space between where a restaurant sources its produce and its final destination on a diner's plate.  Anyone who hasn't been to Sundy House (read review here) is in for a an unforgettable and almost enchanted experience.  The property, which features a boutique hotel and exquisite restaurant, is a tropical oasis just off the main drag of downtown Delray Beach, which is perhaps one of the most culturally and culinarily vibrant areas north of MiMo.  Perhaps the most unforgettable part of Sundy House are its tropical gardens featuring dozens of edible flora, some of which are even new to the most seasoned horticulturist.

Newly appointed Executive Chef Denise Girard has taken it upon herself to introduce new, creative dishes to Sundy House's repertoire of classic recipes and is taking the concept of eating locally to new heights by utilizing ingredients that are grown just steps from the restaurant's kitchen.  While there is talk of plans to start an edible garden just down the street, Sundy House has already begun the process of sourcing from its own tropical gardens with a cocktail and desserts made with this summer's abundant harvest of starfruit (carambola).  Diners can sip on a starfruit martini made with starfruit purée, Jack Daniels, and coconut liqueur for $11, which is specially priced during happy hour at only $8.  End a fine meal with a starfruit and mango bavarois made with yogurt and mangos that are also grown on premises, or savor a "golden stars" tart filled with creamy custard and embedded with slices of the star-shaped fruit.  In tune with the seasonality of the fruit, these specialties will only be offered for a limited time.
