If you’re trying to ace that final exam or struggling to remember that ridiculous formula for your economics class then grab a treat from this list of goodies that won’t just fill you up but make you smarter too. After a few nibbles of this wholesome brain food you’ll be smarter than the Brain and maybe even take over the world or just pass your class.  It’s your choice.

Everyone knows fish is a great source of omega-3, but salmon has an unusual concentration of this fatty acid that helps with concentration, thinking and decreases the risk of certain brain-related problems. Wild salmon is the best choice since it has DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicospentaenoic acid). DHA helps the brain maintain and rebuild cells while EPA helps the heart with proper circulation, the combination of the both makes salmon the super food of brain food.

Or snack on the South American native berry Acai or a blueberry, two great sources of omega-3 fatty acids, minus the fishy taste. You know the saying “the darker the berry the sweeter the juice,” well there’s some truth to it, since dark berries are a great source of antioxidants, vitamins and have several brain benefits , I guess you could say “the smarter the juice.”  It’s actually been proven that berries help shield the brain from oxidative stress and inflammation, which play a role in brain aging. This unique combination of health properties makes it easy for blood to flow to the brain, quickly making you the "brains" in any group.

That cup of coffee you’re drinking to keep you up all night is not only filled with caffeine goodness, it also has chlorogenic acids that boost your brain. The caffeine in your coffee reacts with certain brain receptors which help improve memory and cognition. By now, you must know the secret ingredient to a smarter you: antioxidants- and freshly ground coffee is filled with it. Now that doesn’t mean you should order a caramel frappucino with whip cream and a double shot espresso, because all you’re guaranteed is a sugar rush; so stick to freshly ground coffee if you want the smartness in a cup.

Not much of a coffee drinker? That’s fine, have green tea instead. The polyphenols in green tea can actually help protect the wear and tear of our brains. Much like coffee, green tea can also help create a positive and uplifting mood, which could contribute to better test taking.

Chocolate maybe your guilty pleasure, but now you have an excuse to nibble on a few more bites. Dark chocolate and refined chocolate which use a more concentrated portion of the cacao bean provide better benefits that can enhance your mood and brain activity. Who would have known you could be such a brain and eat what you love too?!
