Mixtape Monday: Feel Good Music
The sounds of Devendra Barnhart, Modest Mouse, and Little Joy, will surely get you through this Monday

As 2010 makes it final descend into 2011, it may be time to slow things down and appreaciate the beauty that is South Florida. The weather is changing my friends, embrace it. Let the soft cool breezes flow into your hair. Enjoy the orange sunsets as they fade into the beautiful night sky. Then grab a hoodie and snuggle up in the sand with that special somebody. It’s Monday, the laziest day of the week, so why not ?

Devendra Barnhart -  Baby

When I first heard of Devendra, I was shocked by the artistical passion that he displays in his work. Every track has strong meaning and it's not just another song to fill the album. Clearly evident in the song Baby.

The video features an array of quality Indie artists, and even GZA from the Wu-Tang Clan. Barnhart and friends walk down the street and appear to be sucked into a giant anus, only to find a party led by GZA. The message conveyed: Make the best of a shity situation. It’s an up-beat alternative folk song that comes packed with a catchy guitar riff. Devendra’s lo-fi voice is unique and has you wondering why you haven't heard of him before. The song will definitely leave you dancing and smiling, wanting to press the repeat button over and over.

As you rush out of the office today, take a step back and plug into Barnhart’s Baby. Enjoy the playful and fun sounds that this tune has to offer. Observe the people around you and take in the enviroment that many of us here in Miami take for granted.

Modest Mouse - Float on

Debuting in late 2004, Float on is one of the greatest feel good songs ever created, seriously. Rolling Stone hailed this song the 39th greatest song of the decade. It’s a song that everyone can relate to. Whether you’re running into cop cars or if you and your friend got fired on the same exact day, it’s clearly okay.

It’s Monday, and I’m sure all your worries are starting to hit you all at once, just relax, it could be worse. Take it all in, laugh about it, put a smile on your face, and shrug it off. Remember that you have been through this before and you made it out alive. Enjoy Isaac Brock’s hollering and soak up Johnny Marr’s guitar. Music is what gets you through, so take advantage of her, she won’t mind.

No matter how bad your day was or if you’re stuck in traffic on the way home, lower the windows and enjoy the weather and sing as loud as you can. I promise it will make you feel better. We’ll all float on !

Little Joy - Play the Part.

I was introduced to the small band by my crazy obsession with The Strokes. It features Rodrigo Amarante of Los Hermanos on guitar and vocals, Fabrizio Moretti of The Strokes on tenor guitar and Binki Shapiro can also be heard backing Amarante's vocals, as her soft voice completes the trio. Their self entitled debut album was given mostly positive reviews across the board and was named by Pitchfork Media,"one of the sweetest, most listenable, consistently enjoyable records of the season."

It truly is the simplicity of the song, that really captures one’s ear. A very well written song with such engaging lyrics, you can’t help but lay out and enjoy the sunsets Miami has to offer.Tasteful chords and voices that soothe the soul will surely be your lullaby for the night. Fall back into Almarante’s lyrics, as Shapiro’s melodic humming takes you away. Grab your partner and hold them close, and as you look back into evening sun, give thanks for such a beautiful day.

Feel good about today and enjoy what you have, It’s a good day no matter what happens. This will surely set you up for a wonderful night, and have you longing for Mondays through-out the month.

Enjoy the evening my friends ….
