Music: It's just a paycheck
Q&A with Gadi Mizrahi of Wolf + Lamb

Please do the honor and introduce yourself?

My name is Gadi Mizrahi. I run Wolf + Lamb with my partner Zev and have my own Label as well called Double Standard. Oh , and we throw parties out my apartment called The Marcy Hotel...

At what point in time did you figure out that this was your calling?

A few months after I met Zev I had sold my business and came up with the name Wolf + Lamb. It started out as a name for us to DJ under, but it kinda turned into something more...

How do you keep things fresh and new? You seem to re-invent yourself every-track.

I actually really try to re-invent myself every track. It's a fun challenge to get into something you never did before.

Do you have a method to your madness or is it more of a, when the mood strikes, type of thing (production wise)?

Some people work on music all the time, I'm way more moody than that...I've got to really be in the mood, sometimes weeks and months go by, I usually work on dj-ing when that happens, I'm so glad I have dj-ing to fall back on.

What inspires you to do music?

I really like working with other artists on music. Greg Paulus, Soul Clap, Deniz, Zev.

What does music mean to you?

it's just a paycheck...HAHAHAHAHA, are you kidding?

Do you think the days of the mega-club are numbered?

No way. only a very small percentage of people who go out want to be intimate and get personal etc, most people are clubbing cuz they want a place to release the stress of the week etc...

but for those who want a bit quite-er and deeper  experience Wolf + Lamb will always be there! hehehehe

So you've visited us Few times down here in the "bottom"  what are your thoughts on Miami? What keeps you coming back? Is there still some magic left in the city after WMC?

I Love miami,

I've been coming here for years, outside of WMC. Only since the pickle opened has it really gotten interesting. Will is the shit! He keeps on re-inventing the pickle, something Zev and I have tried to consistently do with The Marcy over the years.

Intimacy?

Yes Please

How would you describe your relationship with Crosstown?

crosstown who?

hahaha

I love Kenny and Jonnie...

Hip Hop from the 90’s or now?

I listen to both, but now only instrumental Hip-Hop.

There must be a reason why you've decided to kick it in Williamsburg instead of moving the entire operation across the pond like others have done in the past. How does Brooklyn help shape your sound if at all?

Funny,

I was in Hamburg last weekend and a few people said to me "please don't move to berlin, as we're afraid you and your label will lose your sound"

I love Berlin in the summer though, RIP bar 25...

I've watched your label evolve over these last few years  into an unstoppable entity, now W+L is  almost a state of mind. How would you say the W+L sound has changed over the course the last couple of years? How do you feel about where you are at now?

We started out a minimal techno outfit, I call those the angry rebellious teenager years, like when I was into nirvana etc... now I'm personally into my Deep 4 Life years, I am getting older...if I could only figure out how to make the music I love most....I guess that's what keeps it interesting to me.

What is Wolf + Lamb Black?

W+L Black was a label we started when we didn't have a label to put out these 2 amazing Edits we received from Soul Clap. every label we opened in the past was out of necessity.

We really love playing edits!

What is your preferred vacation destination?

Burning Man is a real vacation for me.

What are your plans for all Hallows Eve? Costumes?

Halloween should be a pretty big deal for us this year. We're teaming up with DANGER, and putting on a pretty insane showcase. Slow Hands, No Regular Play, Soul Clap , Nico Jaar and W+L are all on the bill....

What’s on the horizon for W+L? Who should we be on the look out for?

A new Duo is joining us called Voices of Black, their album should be out in about a month. Michael Christopher AKA Derek Foreal who recently moved from Miami to NY, will probably have his first ep On W+L in the coming months. S.E.C.T. should have an EP and more coming out this winter, and a cool cat from Israel who goes by Double Hill should have an ep out soon as well....

And lastly what would you, sir, like to say to your dedicated fans?

Look out for Wolf+ Lamb VS Soul Clap this spring...that should be a pretty interesting variety show...

Gadi Mizrahi will be blowing minds alongside Deniz Kurtel Oct 22, at the Electric Pickle. Make sure your face is in the place.
