Joonbug: First off what is your full name, age, where are you from, and where do you currently reside?
Jenn: Jenn Martinello, I am 27, from Sebastian Inlet FL,USA. I currently reside in South Beach Miami.
.
Joonbug: What's your style in three words or less?
Jenn: Big room, progressive, tech trance.
Joonbug: If you could spin at any club in any city, where would it be and why?
Jenn: Amsterdam arena!! Because I had a dream of it, and I would like to make that dream come true!
Joonbug: What or who are your influences and why?
Jenn: Simple, Marco V, Sasha and John Digweed they are pioneers and really showed me what EDM can do and where it can take you. While in a tough industry and being yourself without conforming. Still giving what the crowd wants and needs.
Joonbug: What do you have going on right now and what are your plans for the future?
Jenn: HAHA I have a gag order on a few things... all I can say is BEWARE of the biggest party during Art Basel this Dec!!! Its going to be sick! But its hush hush, and nothing has ever hit Miami like this. Then I have a few radio residencies that are about to break out to the public with a awesome station, and major tech trance label. Stay tuned for that! Some really sweet gigs coming up NYE party at The Westin Diplomat, my 5th time ripping the Sprit of Sound Gathering, and gigs abroad. My future plans include moving from Miami! Taking a sound engineering course. Traveling to space ha-ha just kidding. Really To get into the long awaited studio, when I am ready.
Joonbug: What equipment both hardware and software do you use?
Jenn: Ok industry standard Pioneers, Technics, DJM800. The loves of my life. Then for software I use occasionally mixed in key when I need to analyze tracks. But my ears are pretty trained by now. Its just harder being in the MP3 era and not seeing my vinyl like I’m used to. but in bulk as to how I used to shop for vinyl is way different. This may make it easier but MP3s takes up more time to go thru for me.
Joonbug: What was the breakthrough moment/gig that got you started in this business or that you feel propelled you into the industry?
Jenn: Um… it wasn’t one gig it was the momentum of progress. I have been told I am a bit of a machine. When it comes to marketing and communicating with my listeners and fans. I dont slack at all! VERY important to me.
Joonbug: What do you like to drink when your behind the decks?
Jenn: ha-ha man you busted me! Heineken light or regular... Its my gas yo!
Joonbug: What city best represents your style of music?
Jenn: UK, Australia, and Netherlands.
Joonbug: What does Jenn Martinello do for fun when she isn't ripping up the dance floor?
Jenn: ha-ha well I do Cosplay parties every week, dress up and act a fool. I like sports, cooking, sleep, working on music, chilling with friends, shopping, and lots of studying.
Joonbug; How do you set up the transition from one song to the next? What do you look for? Listen for? Or try to feel? For example, when your mixing it up, what are you thinking about when trying to structure your set?
Jenn: I mix in key so I am always aware of what is going on with the harmonics first off. Really it depends on what I am doing with the crowd. Boosting the energy, or keeping a even keel, ETC. I really like building up, and then giving a bit of ambience like we hit the clouds ha-ha! Then taking it to another level. Its important that my bass frequencies are correct, but what I am thinking before letting loose the next big or amazing tune is... Man they are going to love this ha-ha!!
Joonbug: We know your tearing the Miami scene up. When will we see you spin abroad and where to first?
Jenn: While having a blast ripping it up in Miami. I am a full stage of rebellion. I have already been abroad to places such as Dubai, Jakarta Indonesia ETC... I will be hitting Thailand, Goa, and Pakistan in the next few months! Im so stoked! I love traveling and sharing this very personal experience.
