Hours before the scheduled Betsey Johnson VIP meet-and-greet from 4-5 p.m at her store in the Town Center at Boca Raton this past Saturday, onlookers swarmed as a never ending line of fans anxiously waited to meet Betsey. At the entrance of the store were two provocative, Betsey-inspired dancers grooving to the beats from Vinsane, Vinny and Vinny, the hired dj’s. Inside of the store, the staff scrambled around perfecting minute, but necessary details--a table with mini cupcakes decorated with plastic anchors, a magnificent blue and white striped sailor cake, hanging balloons, and Betsey Johnson products galore. Dressed in typical Betsey fashion from head-to-toe, the sales girls wore bold red lips, sexy sailor outfits, outrageous heels, and luscious faux lashes. Betsey Johnson arrived with her entourage around 3:30 p.m. She was wearing a floor length floral chiffon dress, belted below her waist. Her hair was pulled back in an effortlessly messy, but chic french twist and her lips were painted their fabulous red hue. Betsey was greeted by the store’s manager, Katie, who instantaneously handed her a glass of champagne filled to the brim. An overwhelmed looking Betsey was swarmed by screaming teens and die-hard fashion fans. Once safely inside, press were able to sit with Betsey for about 3 minutes each. Here is what Betsey Johnson had to say.

BZ: What can we expect from your line expansion into watches this summer with Haskell Jewels?

BJ: One half of the line screams Betsey. It is very heavy and very gorgeous. The other side is light and doesn’t scream Betsey, but it's still Betsey.

BZ: In a recent press release you stated that your dream come true is making your collection more accessible to a broader range of your customers. With that said, do you have plans of expanding on your international footprint?

BJ: You got to go global. If it sells here, it will sell anywhere. Once you have a niche, you have to go global. Everyone globalizes.
