Ace Young (season 5) and Diana DeGarmo (season 6 runner up) are officially engaged. The singer popped the question to DeGarmo on the season finale of American Idol last night. The cute couple met when they were both starring on Broadway's revival of Hair and became inseparable. They also have collaborated on music together with DeGarmo signed on to Young's indie label Young Brothers Entertainment.
"We have conquered Broadway together, we have created new music together, we have an amazing group of people around us," Young professed right before popping the question.
The ring was designed by Young with the help of jewelry designer David Webb and is a 18kt yellow gold, platinum, and diamond ring with a yellow center stone weighing 1 carat, with two side diamonds. DeGarmo was certainly pleased with his taste exclaiming, "Wow, babe, you picked a good one!" after replying yes and accepting the stone.
Afterward Young told People the backstory of the surprise proposal: "I called Nigel (Lythgoe) directly last week and said, 'I want to do this. I'm going to do this. Is there any way I could do it at the show?'" said Young. "He said 'Yes, I'm not going to tell anybody until the day of. I want you to figure it out with Ryan (Seacrest).'"
