On Monday the Hall of Famer tweeted that his estranged wife attacked him in front of their kids saying, “Pray for me and my kids now! They just witnessed their mother and a friend jump me in my room. She’s going to jail n I’m pressing charges!” He also posted a photo of himself with two of his sons, ages 10 and 12, filling out police reports, which he later removed from the site.
Pilar was arrested a few hours after the incident, in which Deion claims she and a friend jumped him. Though Deion got a $500 ticket for the incident, Pilar didn't get off as easy. She was arrested and posed for a mug shot. Pilar was booked for the misdemeanor "assault family violence."
She was released Tuesday and ordered to stay away from their home for 60 days. The judge also barred her from threatening or harassing her husband, according to the Associated Press.
Outside the jail after her release Pilar emotionally tells reporters, “I understand that I have very little chance at beating a Hall of Fame, two-sport man that everyone seems to love and adore. I’m a full-time mom, 100 percent for my children. And I just haven’t been given a fair shake.”
Pete Schulte, Pilar Sanders' attorney said Monday's incident began after she went to the police to get a protective order against him. He said police talked her out of it. Now, after her arrest, police filed a protective order against her! Schulte said he believes the wrong person was arrested and that the truth would come out in court.
After her release from jail, Pilar's sister Kandie Biggers said, "The idea of a 120-pound woman jumping a professional athlete is ludicrous."
She said Pilar has "stood strong and silent," never defaming or slandering her estranged husband. "It's time to break the silence," Biggers said. "Not just for Pilar, but for all of the women who need to break their silence in dealing with husbands who want to control and abuse them to the bitter end."
Pilar Sanders goes on to tell reporters she hopes her husband's celebrity doesn't obscure her intentions in the couple's ongoing divorce and legal battles saying,” Far too often, people are enamored by the glitz and glamour and the yellow jacket and star on the side of the helmet," she said. "But I would never give up. I will never give up fighting for the protection of my children."
