Comedy Central and MTV Networks have recently announced a collaboration to honor the best comedy films, actors, T.V. series, stand-up, and digital content to hit the nation. This huge event will be the first multi-network, multi-platform, yearly celebration dedicated to honoring and celebrating the world of comedy.
The Comedy Awards will take place in none other than New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on March 26th and will premiere all across MTV Networks, Spike TV, TV Land, VH1, and of course, Comedy Central on Sunday, April 10th, 2011.
It will be a night of heavy hitters, as The Comedy Awards’ Board of Directors, who are set to select the night’s nominees, include James Burrows, Billy Crystal, Will Ferrell, Whoopi Goldberg, Brad Grey, Seth MacFarlane, Adam McKay, Jimmy Miller, Jay Roach, Ray Romano, Phil Rosenthal, and many others!
The winners will be selected by an invitation-only voting body of 500-1000 members from the comedy community—including performers, writers, producers, and directors. Not intriguing enough yet? There will be several awards that fans will get to vote on at the event site, thecomedyawards.com, to determine a winner.
Just as exciting, along with the launch of The Comedy Awards comes news of a team-up between MTVN Entertainment Group, Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), The Motion Picture and Television Fund, and The Actors’ Fund, to establish The American Comedy Fund. Facing a career which has no union or other protection, and often hitting hard times, even our most famous comedians have faced extreme challenges to survive following their true passion. The American Comedy Fund was created to provide desperately needed financial assistance, health benefits, and other resources for comedians struggling during hard times across the U.S.
The Comedy Awards will be a true celebration and homage to the genre and honor one of the most important things people must have in their lives—laughter. A truly worthy celebration and huge event across the nation, we wait with baited breath to hear more about the award show and its stellar line up of entertainment for the evening.
