That's the downside of the Oscars.

Every year, a bunch of actors and actresses end up disappointed following the nominations. They were acclaimed by the critics, and still...  

This year, the announcement has been more particularly hard to swallow for five of them: Andrew Garfield (The Social Network), Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine), Mila Kunis (Black Swan), Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right), and Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter).

And to really put the knife in, each of them saw a costar earning a nomination: Michelle Williams for Blue Valentine, Natalie Portman for Black Swan, Jesse Eisenberg for The Social Network, Annette Benning for The Kids Are All Right and Amy Adams, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo, all for The Fighter.
