Say it isn’t so! Is our favorite super-handsome surgeon getting ready to leave after next season?
Television regular Patrick Dempsey, or at the very least his alter-ego ‘Dr. McDreamy’, has practically become a household name ever since the ABC hospital drama Grey’s Anatomy shot to fame back in 2005. The fact that the show has just ended its seventh season makes everything seem so surreal.
The star kept coy and neither denied nor confirmed any of the reports, despite his possible departure has been speculated nonstop since last week. Will the upcoming season in the fall be his last? Dempsey responds, "Our contracts are up I haven't heard anything, so it seems like it is...I don't know. It's not in my hands, quite honestly, and it's really too early to talk about. I [have] a whole season ahead of me to do, so we'll see what happens."
What adds fuel to the fiery gossip is Patrick's role in upcoming summer blockbuster Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the third installment in the successful film franchise, premiering 06/29/11. The sudden career move back to the silver screen has left McDreamy fans wondering if the star has outgrown the long-running show, especially after a small appearance on the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. Best bet that loyal supporters will just have to wait until the next season finale in 2012 to know if Seattle Grace's resident Prince Charming will remain.
It will be a dark day indeed if the reports turn out to be true. Grey's Anatomy without Dr. Sheperd? Almost like how TRL was without Carson Daly: empty & unwise.
