City Harvest hosted An Evening of Practical Magic this week, honoring Union Square Hospitality Group. The charity's 18th annual gala took place at Cipriani 42nd Street and attracted 550 guests while raising an astounding $2 million dollars to feed the needy. Tickets ranged from $750-$2500 while tables went from $10,000 to $50,000, with 100% of the proceeds going towards City Harvest.
Generous sponsors for the evening included Barclays, Discovery Communications, and Manhattan Lincoln. In addition to the Union Square Hospitality Group, Duane Reade was honored with the Heart of the City Award, given to one of City Harvest's partners who has provided the organization with extraordinary services and has performed in an exceptional manner to impact hunger. City Harvest also acknowledged BJ's Wholesale Club, Boar's Head, and Harvest Queens Farms as Food Donors of the Year.
The event attracted big names such as Kelly Rutherford, Leila Lopes, Miss Universe, Miss USA, Eric Ripert, Marc Murphy, Gail Simmons, Michael Anthony, David Burke, Floyd Cardoz, Heather Mnuchin, and Governor David Paterson, just to name a handful. Nicholas D. Lowry, President of Swann Auction Galleries, served as the auctioneer for the evening. Some of the fabulous auction items of the evening included surf lessons for two in the Hamptons with Marc Murphy, as well as a dinner for 20 prepared by Marc at the winner's Hamptons home, with two winners and bids totaling $60,000 and a custom designer tasting menu for a 20 guest dinner party in the winners home prepared by Eric Ripert, which went for an astounding $200,000. The evening was clearly a huge success for City Harvest so a big cheers to the organization from all of us at Joonbug!
