Bacon is pretty popular these days; it is used in chocolate, ice cream, and on every and any sandwich imaginable. Have you ever wondered how bacon is made? Wonder, no more! There’s now an app for that. For $4.99, cheaper than the real thing, you can buy the Better Bacon Book: Make, Cook, and Eat Your Way to Cured Pork Greatness app for your iPad. The application is sleek and minimalistic, easy to navigate, and has a notes and bookmark section.

This inventive, bacon-centered application teaches the simple steps it takes to prepare your own homemade bacon with the use of video tutorials, photos, and easy-to-follow written directions. The star of the bacon-makin videos is Tom Mylan of Brooklyn’s The Meat Hook. Follow along as Matt teaches the techniques used to make five different types of bacon. Slab bacon (the grocery store kind), Face bacon, Canadian bacon, Pancetta, and Guanciale all have their own video. Matt also teaches about the different cuts of bacon, curing mixes, and finishing techniques such as air-drying or smoking. Along with techniques, app users can learn how to make their own home-smoker and even the lazy way, using the oven.

The bacon app doesn’t stop there. Included in the application are 31 recipes from chefs from across the country. Shockingly, only three are breakfast recipes. After you’ve made your bacon you can conquer The Meatball Shop’s recipe for Bacon Cheeseburger Meatballs. If you want an even more exotic bacon experience there's also a recipe for a bacon-infused cocktail.
