It’s no secret that there’s soon to be a live action adaptation of Wonder Woman for TV that have a lot of people divided. Not since the 70s and
The New Adventures of Wonder Woman starring Lynda Carter has there been a show about the Amazonian princess. With the recent premiere of
Young Justice and the launch of MAC’s line of Wonder Woman make-up, however, she’s garnered a lot of interest.
This comes as awesome news to fans of her comic books, who recently were also witness to a costume change for Wonder Woman that received mixed reactions. While more practical in many ways, a few found it lacking, and others were just too upset that the original costume was gone in the first place. The rest of us were fine with it, as the change from star-spangled bikini briefs to pants made sense and didn’t grate the eyes.

The costume revealed for the new T.V. show, however, raised quite a few eyebrows. Fans waited with great anticipation for a promo image for David E. Kelley’s new show and were excited to see how Adriana Palicki would look in the new costume. Many were hoping for an adaptation either close to the comic or similar to
Xena: Warrior Princess’ old wardrobe. Sketches for Joss Whedon’s lost Wonder Woman movie concept had been floating around the internet for a long time and had a few great looking ideas that never made it.

What viewers got instead was a whole lot of shiny latex and PVC. The new Wonder Woman indeed sports a very tight pair of pants similar to her new comic book design, but it almost looks painful to wear. The bodice and super tight pants seem harder to move in than her old strapless top and beach bottoms. At the very least those seemed to be made out of fabric and when the armored plates looked like armor, you could bet they were metal and not plastic.
Luckily, we live in an age armed with the internet and access to Photoshop, so immediately slight redesigns of the costume cropped up in many different circles. Project Rooftop, an artist project already toying with the idea of redesigning superhero costumes, even inspired a few of the live action redesign ideas. BleedingCool gathered up a lot of the ones that stood out and added them to one nice cohesive page. To see all of them, check out the article here.
The Wonder Woman T.V. series is set to premiere on NBC in Fall of this year.
