UPenn Professor Dies, Faculty Forgets
Professor dies 5 months prior, class never canceled

Political Science Students of UPenn arrived to a professor-less classroom on Sept. 13, with no clue that their teacher had died 5 months prior. The professor, Dr. Henry Teune, had passed away in April at the age of 75, yet the department failed to cancel the class or even inform the students. Instead an email was sent out during the class that stated:

"PSCI 291-301 is canceled. We are so sorry for this last minute cancellation. With Dr. Henry Teune’s passing, this course should have been cancelled over the summer and was an oversight."

An "oversight?" We'd say this was a little more than an "oversight." Rather a complete fail on the part of the well regarded, Ivy League university. In a personal blog, one student described the incident:

"How annoying is it when you drag yourself out of bed to class and the professor isn’t there? You’re all like, what the hell is this guy doing, worst class ever, etc… and then you find out, via an email sent while you’re waiting in class, that the professor isn’t there because he died. And the department forgot to tell you."

Yikes, looks like UPenn may want to look into one of those high-powered Hollywood publicists to clean up this PR nightmare.
