VIDEO: The Batmobile Drag Race

via Geekologie

If movies have taught us anything, it’s that the best way to settle a score and win the love of your life’s affection is to challenge your rival to a dangerous race. If the long lives the Fast and the Furious movies have led is any indication, racing is still one of the more badass of past times. That doesn’t always translate well to NASCAR and official drag racing where there are rules, controlled environments, and medics around for when things inevitably go sour. Safety doesn’t always make things appealing, but do you know who does? Batman.

This week two functioning Batmobile replicas took to the streets and raced one another. The first is a replica of the Batmobile created for the 1989 film adaptation by Tim Burton. It’s also the Batmobile most of us grew up with on TV in Batman: The Animated Series. The second is one our parents may remember better. The sleek little ride is a replica of the car created for the 1960s Batman TV show, starring Adam West and Burt Ward. Both cars are two very different takes on the Batmobile, from two very different takes on Batman. The first is an extremely slick, if a little overdramatic, ride that reflects the darker tones Burton’s movies took on. The villains were creepier and Batman was a little more brooding. The second’s a happier little ride built for the zany adventures and wackier rogues Adam West’s Batman faced.

That’s not what we came here to see, though. The real test is about which moves faster. Anyone can place their bets now because the race doesn’t start until about 7 minutes and 45 seconds into the video. Maybe sometime in the future both cars can go up against The Dark Knight’s Tumbler, but we’re not holding our breath. Check out all the action in the video below:
