Drinking. Ah, drinking. All day. All night. You know what it does to you; how it makes you feel and act, however different from the recap your friends give. Conversations are better, and food is absolutely better. Health conscious drinkers may end the night with a series of drunken crunches, but why not take note of what you’re putting into your body instead of trying to make up for it with 3 or 4 lousy minutes of a painfully sobering workout?
Gizmodo’s certified nutritionist Maren Robinson took a look at the best and worse drinks for your health, while keeping in mind that any amount of alcohol consumption will have more or less the same effect on your night.
The unhealthiest drinks include the Mudslide, Long Island Iced Tea, bacon-infused Bourbon, sweetened malt drinks, Piña Coladas, Eggnog, and Moonshine.
Think about those thick creamy mixes that could not only lead to diabetes, but contain higher calories chalking up to an extra day at the gym. Procuring a cocktail that contains everything may sound like the best decision ever, and sometimes, yes, absolutely, but keep in mind the U.S.’s obesity epidemic. What would Michele Obama have you drink?
Now, take a look at the healthier selections. Making this list is the Vodka Soda, Michelada, Straight Whiskey and Gin, Wine, the Manhattan, Mimosas, Guinness, Sangria, and a Bloody Mary. Seasoned imbibers know what they’re ordering, and could likely recite the ingredients out loud figuring this list out them selves.
It all boils down to whatever the hell’s in there, right? Robinson stakes the Bloody Mary has the healthiest drink of all. Tomatoes, celery, horseradish and a low carb count could very well be your breakfast! Sangrias have the fruit, and Guinness is made from whole grain wheat, giving you an excellent supply of nutrients. Health conscience or not, everyone should try a Michelada. They’re delicious and Worcestershire sauce is one of the best things you could gift your taste buds.
There you have it, everything you need to know to throw you and your friends a Sustenance Soiree.
