Since becoming First Lady, Michelle Obama has stood as a passionate advocate for healthful eating and exercise. In her first year as the President's wife, Mrs. Obama planted a Kitchen Garden on the White House's south lawn that inspired a new conversation all across the country. Now you can read all about it in her first-ever cookbook, American Grown

Mrs. Obama is the first to plant a vegetable garden since Eleanor Roosevelt's Victory Garden during WWII and so far Obama has laid the groundwork for over 55 varietals of veggies. She is the only presidential spouse in history to publish a book about a signature 'First Lady' campaign in the first term of her husband's presidency.

In American Grown, Mrs. Obama shares her personal journey of becoming the nation's best-known child health advocate as she recounts the many achievements of the 27-month-old Let's Move! childhood obesity initiative. It also includes a comprehensive gardening guide by the chief White House horticulturalist; 16 recipes and essays from the White House chefs; and a peek inside community and school gardening projects from Hawaii to New Jersey.

The book, on sale since April 10, 2012, is to show how "increased access to healthy, affordable food can promote better eating habits and improve health of families and communities across America," according to the publishers at Random House, who will donate all the profits to an unnamed charity.

Mrs. Obama visited New York City for a TV Book Tour, with appearances scheduled for Good Morning America, The View, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
