Free Slurpees At 7-Eleven to Celebrate 85th Birthday

freeismylife.com
How appropriate is it that the ever-so-popular 7-Eleven celebrates its 85th birthday today--July 11th (7/11)!  To commemorate this themed occasion the chain is offering free Slurpees today from 11am to 7pm.

In addition to its 1927 travail, this giveaway is also celebratory of the 45th birthday of the incumbent trademark product of the establishment: the Slurpee.  The allure that is the Slurpee was first introduced to 7-Eleven in 1965 but became apart of nearly all of its stores in 1967.

The carbonated, icey beverage has evolved right along with 7-Eleven.  Once called 'Snoda the frozen soda' with basic flavors like cherry, the Slurpee now comes in flavors identified by actual beverages like Dr. Pepper, pineapple Fanta, and Coca-Cola.  It has seen more cup designs than can be recalled; in small to extra  large sizes with wacky patterns that sometimes created a dizzy effect.

The company was started by Joe C. Thompson who sought to provide service for extended hours for convenience.  His humble new store stocked the bare minimum of milk, bread and eggs sold out of an ice house.  The Southland Ice Company employee had parlayed this very simple idea into a worldwide dominator in just a few years.  Today, 7-Eleven is run by Seven & I Holdings Co. maintaining north of 46,000 stores in 16 countries.

The free Slurpee is only available in the 7.11-ounce since--of course--and is available at participating stores.
