Fast food restaurant chains are notorious for coming up with wild and wacky schemes to keep patrons hooked on their foods. We all remember KFC’s chicken sandwich, The Double Down, which used fried chicken strips instead of bread and Denny’s entire menu surrounding bacon. Bacon pancakes, bacon ice cream, a tri-layer BLT with 8 slices of bacon, etc. But none of these were as ingenious as Taco Bell’s new Doritos shell tacos. As their website states, the new tacos will be "Taco Bell on the inside. Doritos on the outside."

The Doritos Locos Taco, the neon orange cheese type in the red bag, and the Cool Ranch  Doritos Taco, the speckled chips in the blue bag, will be used instead of a regular hard-shell taco. The new line of Taco Bell tacos will be priced $1.29 for regular and $1.69 for supreme. There has been a lot of hype focusing on the release of the Doritos Taco for the last year. Taco Bell’s website even has a countdown for the highly anticipated nationwide release on March 8th. No need to rush to your nearest Taco Bell on Thursday though, these tacos are staying on the menu for the foreseeable future. There’s an alleged 85 million Doritos taco shells prepared for this momentous occasion. That’s almost one for every three Americans.

Taco Bell has been releasing a lot of new products recently due to bad press and a few PR mishaps in recent memory. The Yum Brands-owned chain is working hard to create other new menu lines in order to compete with Chipotle. So after you enjoy your Cool Ranch Doritos Taco stay tuned for Taco Bell’s “First Meal” breakfast menu and upscale Catinas menu items.
