Luciano, I mean, Lucien-n-Luciano, errr, maybe Lucien Nicolet?  Let's stick with Luciano.  Naming debate behind us, this nominally confused producer sure knows his stuff.  Swiss born, but Chilean bred, Luciano started djing in the mid '90s in the then quite underground South American electronic scene.  Alongside the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano began exploring the genre of microhouse, also known as minimal house, an electronic genre stemming form minimal techno and glitch, while incorporating a lot of house's funkiness and melody.

Unfortunately for Luciano, however, at the time when he was trying to carve out a scene in Chile and the rest of South America, no one was really interested.  There were no good labels, shows, funding or many fans.  So he moved back to Switzerland, and within a few years of doing so, was releasing albums on some of the best microhouse labels and headlining festivals all over Europe.  These days, of course, thanks to the like of Luciano and Villalobos, there is a very cool South American electronic music scene, so, thanks man!

His worldly upbringing is also evident in the music he makes. Microhouse is often overwhelmingly dark and moody, leaving listeners kind of alienated.  However, thanks to Luciano's South American sensibilities, his produces more colorful, rhythmic and tropical tracks, influenced by traditional latin music.  Not only does this make his tracks more upbeat and pleasurable, but they are way more danceable as well, creating a bunch of crossover hits between the genres (EDM vs. Microhouse).

If anything, Luciano is still cultivating his style, exploring new avenues of inspiration and technique.  His tracks have mellowed recently, but have also gotten more experimental and spacey, almost psychedelic.

Luckily for us, he's playing a show in NYC this week. He'll be at District 36 in NYC on April 21st, alongside Ernesto Ferreyra and Sleepy & Boo.  Tickets are available here. Better yet, get them from us for FREE by entering our giveaway now!

Oh and here's Luciano's Soundcloud.  Give it a listen.
