Bonnaroo Lineup Announced
Not to be outdone by our announcement of Coachella...

Not to be outdone by the announcement of the Coachella lineups last week, the lineup for 2009’s edition of Bonnaroo has leaked to the internet today. Bonnaroo is one of the other most heralded outdoor music festivals in the country, and last year Rolling Stone magazine named it the “Best Festival” of 2008. It takes place annually every summer on a 700 acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee.

Bonnaroo primarily first focused on jam bands, but has since branched out to include artists from a wide array of genres. However, this year the concert is getting back to its roots by featuring perhaps the most prominent of the jam bands, Phish, as its headliners. The Vermont-based band has been on hiatus since 2004, but Phish heads will be thrilled that they are playing three reunion shows in Virginia in April, and than performing two sets at Bonnaroo.

Super Bowl headliners Bruce Springstein and the East Street Band will also be featured prominently, in what looks to be an eventful 2009 for the New Jersey rock veterans. Hopefully there’s slightly less crotch thrusting than was exhibited in the Super Bowl. Another older performer, who has to also be the most unexpected, is 70s soul legend Al Green. Another artist that will certainly stand out among the sea of jam bands will be Snoop Dogg. Hopefully he’ll do a rendition of his anthem Gin and Juice with Phish. Other hip hop acts will include People Under the Stairs and the Knux.

Nigerian jazz star Femi Kuti will make an appearance with his backing band Positive Force, while Elvis Costello will perform a rare solo set. Animal Collective, whose recently released Merriweather Post Pavillion looks destined to be one of the greatest albums of 2009 will also take the stage. Other major acts to look out for include David Byrne, Wilco, Andrew Bird, Girl Talk, Bon Iver, Of Montreal, Santogold, Grizzly Bear, Crystal Castles, Yeasayer, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Band of Horses, and MGMT.
