Danish indie band Mew is not your typical alternative/experimental rock band, nor is the tour that they are currently promoting. The band, which often refers to themselves as “pretentious art rock” or “the world’s only indie stadium band,” will be embarking on a unique venture for such a worldly successful group. Eight of their North American shows will feature a contest-winning local band to open for the group. Each band will be chosen by Mew in a yet-to-be-determined contest, the details of which will be made available on the band’s website as the North American tour follows the release of their fifth album, No more stories Are told today I'm sorry They washed away, No more stories The world is grey I'm tired Let's wash away, which was released this past August. The album climbed up the charts in Denmark until it reached number one and also found its way to number two in Finland and Norway. Their success and critical notoriety found the attention of the iconic indie band, The Pixies, who asked Mew to open for them on December 1 at Constitution Hall in Washington D.C.
Everybody with talent deserves to be heard and Mew will be making that happen in their upcoming tour. Get your friends together and try out for their local band contest and you just might find yourselves in front of thousands of screaming fans opening for “the world’s only indie stadium band”… or you can waste your life eating cupcakes and playing Rock Band in front of a computer generated audience. It’s your call.
