Think of it like mixing a cocktail. Rum and Coke. Vodka and Redbull. Or a more g-rated example, Peanut Butter and Jelly. All of these things are fine on their own. Separately created, and can be enjoyed by themselves. But when combined with each other, a whole new creation of flavor is born. Hip-House, or House Rap, explores just that: the combination of hip/hop elements with house music - and creates a whole new genre of music.
Minor History Tidbit: The first actual hip-house song was "Rok Da House" by the Beatmasters and Cookie Crew in 1987.
That being said, fast forward to the new millenium: a generation of remixes, reboots, remakes, and most recently - musical mash-ups, or bootlegs. Mashing up, or combining, two pre-recorded songs together - often times taking the vocals of one and rehashing it against the instrumental of another - is growing from a novelty to a emerging subgenre with both cult and mainstream following.
You can find a variety of mashed up songs at MashUpTown and Ranker.com has a list of some of the top Mash-Up groups in the industry. As for the amateurs, don't worry: you can be heard too - Soundcloud even has a section dedicated specifically for those who've created their own mashup hip-house pieces. Currently a quiet little section, but don't expect this trend to stay under the radar for much longer.
DJ Chuckie created his own little bootleg for this year's Identity Music Festival, better known as ID Fest. Taking Kanye and Jay-Z's "Paris" and backing it against a Benny Benassi classic, "Satisfaction"; Chuckie gave his fans "Paris Satisfaction." - a ridiculously bold track with an infectious combination of rap vs. house beats that's sure to hook.
