There’s a new man on the scene and he’s making quite a splash in the music world. The singer/songwriter has penned songs for top producers as well as wrote his own, released an EP this past August, and is set to release his debut album in the coming year. We’re talking about New York bred singer, Matthew Koma.

A true musical veteran, Koma explains that music has been a part of his life since he was a child. “I grew up in a pretty musical household. My brother was a drummer and we always kind of jammed and covered songs and stuff since we were really young, so it's sort of been one of those things that was always there.” He goes on to credit the songwriters and storytellers of music as his inspirations. To be specific, Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen revealing he grew up listening to “classic stuff like that.”

In August, Koma released his first EP "Parachute" which showcases his inner rock side. It's the introduction of what to expect on his debut album, "Propaganda" set for an early 2013 release. "I've been working on a record for the past year or so.  We were in the midst of touring so we wanted to put a sort of appetizer out there with a couple of songs for people to be introduced to a little bit. I think it was a fair representation of the beginning stages of this record," he said.

While Koma credits the classic greats as his idols, he shows he can explore other types of genres and proves to be a versatile artist. With that said, you may recognize his powerful and distinct vocals on two of electronic dance music’s biggest tracks of 2012.  He co-wrote and was featured on German DJ/producer, Zedd's hit single, “Spectrum.” The track is one of the most recognized songs and you can hear fans belting the lyrics at any music festival.

"I was doing a lot of writing for other artists on Interscope who also manages Zedd. So we actually linked up and listened to each others music," he said on how the collab came about. "As time progressed, it started to become more of a work relationship and we were working on songs for other artists and then he sent me some stuff he was working on for his album and that's how Spectrum was born."

Swedish producer, Alesso, also reached out and Koma co-wrote and put his vocals on "Years," which he performed live during Alesso's set at Coachella 2012. Futhermore, he also co-wrote the hook on Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso’s smash single “Calling (Lose My Mind)” featuring Ryan Tedder.

Koma is definately one to watch out for in 2013. Whether it's rocking out to one of his own tracks or creating immense collaborations, he's expressed interest in it all  "I think there's such a value to not necessarily strap yourself to a specific genre. You know, a great song is a great song and as long as it's delivered as something sincere I'd love to do more work with it."
