The weather is getting warmer and you know what that means... festival season is here! Here's a list of upcoming rock, alternative, hip-hop, and jazz festivals for your Spring and Summer. (If you're looking for our list of strictly EDM festivals, go here.)
Rock on!
New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival
April 27-May 6
New Orleans, LA
With huge names like Bruce Springsteen and the Foo Fighters, Jazzfest is a staple in every dedicated festival-goers agenda. Smaller acts like Bon Iver and Iron & Wine will be there too, offering something for everyone. At ten days long, y’all should start resting up now.
May 2-6
West Palm Beach, FA
Literally on the beach in West Palm Beach, Florida, Sunfest is another tried and true stop on the festival circuit. With acts ranging from The Counting Crows to Snoop Dog, The Fray to Wiz Khalifa, no fan will leave disappointed. Also, if you missed it before, it’s on the beach. One more time: It’s on the BEACH!
May 25-28
George, WA
What more can be said about Sasquatch? It’s huge, its lineup is unparalleled, the venue is pretty much built into the side of a canyon, and for years its been the go-to Memorial Day weekend destination for music lovers. So what are you waiting for? I know you're not working...
May 18-20
Gulf Shores, AL
The Hangout Music Festival is a relative newcomer to the circuit, but over the past three years it has made quite an impression. This isn’t particularly surprising given the facts: it’s on the beach (!!!), its lineup contains some of the biggest names out there (RHCP, Dave Mathews, Skrillex), and it happens to be one of the fastest growing festivals in the US(attendance seems to double every year). Come on, be part of that statistic and check it out!
May 25-27
Chillicothe, IL
With a healthy mix of rock and electronic, Summer Camp offers a rock solid lineup for even the most eclectic tastes. While Moe., Umphrey's McGee, and Janes's Addiction hold up the rock and roll side of the bargain, newcomers like Pretty Lights, Zed's Dead and araabMUZIK can ease your dancehall withdrawl.
May31- June 3
Ozark, AK
For a festival hidden away in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, Wakarusa is GIGANTIC. Getting bigger and bigger every year, 2012's lineup includes Pretty Lights, Girl Talk, Primus and Balkan Beat Box. Get your tickets soon, they've been selling out for years!
June 2-3
Houston, TX
A fairly new festival in Houston, Free Press attracts hundreds of artists every year for a weekend of music, art and culture. This year's lineup is solid. Big names like Snoop Dog, Willie Nelson and The Flaming Lips are rounded out by a stellar showing of smaller bands like up-and-comers Best Coast and classic punks Descendents.
June 7-10
Manchester, TN
Probably the biggest music and art festival on the East coast, Bonaroo reigns supreme every year from a farm in the middle of Tennessee. I’m sure all of you have heard of it, there’s really not much I can add, just give up and get your tickets already.
June 27- July 8
Milwaukee, WI
Summerfest holds the title of the BIGGEST music festival in the world. If you need another reason to check it out (not sure why you would...), Summerfest attracts over 700 bands a year, with shows ranging from the intimate dive bar, to headliners in the Marcus Ampitheater, surely something for everyone. Oh yeah, Milwaukee is also the beer capital of the US. Need I say more?
June 23- 24
Randall’s Island, NY
Located on Randall’s island, Governors Ball is probably the closest big festival to NYC, and by close, I mean it’s in the city. With its 2012 lineup being one of the best in the biz, there really is no excuse to miss this one. From Beck and Modest Mouse, to Chromeo and James Murphy, this year’s Ball has it all.
July 13- 15
Chicago, IL
The Pitchfork Music Festival has become one of the most highly attended festivals of the summer. With only a few years under its belt, PMF has become the go-to festival for any music lover. Spanning multiple days, multiple stages and multiple genres, it’s definitely worth checking out. Some bands this year: Cloud Nothings, GY!BE, Grimes, A$ap Rocky and AraabMuzik.
