The 24-year-old LA native and what he describes as "Moombahton, Luvstep, and Everything In-Between" DJ/Producer, Dillon Francis is a name that has noisily broken out onto the dance music scene and continues to rise as our favorite funny guy. If your looking for some DJ Self Defense techniques from Dill himself or embracing his sharp sounds that exceed the word "moombahton" in every way possible, it'll be clear from the start that this guy is changing the Moombah and Dubstep game.
Now on the second leg of his Wet & Reckless Tour, the young producer has recently collaborated with Calvin Harris on "Here 2 China" and just dropped his newest single "Bootleg Fireworks," which can be purchased on Beatport and iTunes. Read our Q&A with him below to catch a glimpse of what a character he really is!
How did you get into music? Did you always imagine yourself doing what you do now as a career? The first time I ever heard Bloody Beetroots’ ‘Ill to Destroy’ while I was in my friend’s Jeep Cherokee is when I realized I wanted to DJ and produce electronic music. I just loved it. I wanted to be a part of it.
If you weren't Djing/producing, what do you think you would be doing? Eating tacos.
Who influences you musically? Everybody from The Germs to Calvin Harris.
How would you describe your relationship with Diplo? Awesome. We're working on some new stuff together.
Some people just don't understand what moombahton is. How would you describe it to them?
It's kind of a fusion of house music and reggaeton (only similar by the BPM which is around 110). It's very bubbly / bouncy music.
Do you feel like because the genre is relatively small you can easily connect with your fans and set the standards for it? No. I think I can connect with my fans cuz they know IDGAFOS.
Since you first started out, what changes have you seen in the genre's following?
Definitely an increase!
What's the craziest or most memorable thing that has happened to you at a show?
I brought a giant HAM out on stage.
You played at Electric Zoo for the first time this year. How was that experience for you? (Aren't New Yorkers the best?!!)
F*cking amazing!!! It was one of my favorite sets this year.
How is it being on your first headlining tour?
Really cool... it's awesome hanging with Flosstradamus, Clockwork, and Baauer on the tour bus. I'm always thinking of new pranks.
You recently collaborated with Calvin Harris and Dizzee Rascal on "Here To China," how did that come about and are you happy with the finished product?
Calvin has always been a great supporter and mentor. One day he just reached out about the song and we collaborated!
What can your fans look forward to in the future from you? Do you have any collabs/new tracks coming out in the near future?
Tons of new music, videos, and other AWESOME shit on my merch store here :)
