2011's Best Fashion Moments
Our top 10 looks of the year!

2011 has been an incredible year, sartorially speaking. From Anne Hathaway's eight costume changes at the Academy Awards to Diane Kruger...well, whenever the woman puts on clothes, a few of the ladies that didn't make the cut were this close. Ultimately, we decided that the criteria to make Joonbug's "Top Looks of 2011" list lay within three very simple (and very visible) requirements: originality, memorability and game-change factor. Once we began to whittle down our large list, we found that very few looks - no matter how much we loved them - fit these requirements.

The eleven looks you see here were chosen because these ladies wanted to make a statement. Whether it was Kate Middleton going down in history with her custom-made Alexander McQueen gown at "the wedding of the century", or Emma Stone signifying that she is a red carpet regular that actually knows a thing or two about high fashion in an unusual Giambattista Valli skirt and top, no one can deny that each and every woman on this list made a statement with what she wore. At the end of the day, fashion is about expressing who you are. So while these looks may not top your favorites list, we at Joonbug salute the women of our Top Looks of 2011. They are confident, stylish and creative and those are things we all want to encompass in 2012.

10.) DONATELLA VERSACE, H&M Collection Launch - November 8th, 2011. New York City, NY. With designer capsule collections being a dime a dozen these days, the popularity of the sold-out Versace for H&M is a testament to the brand as well as its iconic designer. Donatella arrived to the NYC launch in a studded leather Versace dress that brought back memories of the Gianni-designed Versace heyday and proved that Donatella has never lost her glam touch.

8.) THE TWO KATE'S: KATE MIDDLETON, at her wedding to Prince William
- April 29th, 2011. London, England. Middleton stepped out of her car in a custom-made Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown to deafening applause and ever since then not a single female has bought a wedding dress with sleeves or put her bridesmaids in anything but white. Okay - that's an exaggeration, but she did start some major trends. While she has appeared in a slew of stylish and memorable looks since her wedding, it was that day that a true fashion icon was made. AND KATE MOSS, at her wedding to Jamie Hince - July 1st, 2011. Cotswalds, England. The second major wedding event of the year was the notoriously wild supermodel marrying her longterm companion. In a flowing, romantic dress designed by her friend John Galliano and inspired by "the 1930's, Gypsies and The Great Gatsby", Moss' nuptuials earned the nickname "Moss-stock", had a "second looks" tent for guests to change before the party, and a custom drink from the Ritz Paris filled with sugar and vodka called "The Kate 76". Kate has been quoted as saying "these pictures will be forever", and we have to agree.

7.) DAPHNE GUINNESS, The Met Costume Institute Gala - May 2nd, 2011. New York City, NY. A close friend of Alexander McQueen, Daphne chose to wear the late designer head to toe at the annual gala, celebrating this year the "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" exhibit at the museum. Prior to the gala, she got dressed in a store window at Barney's New York as part of a performance art piece.

6.) ANNA DELLA RUSSO, Louis Vuitton RTW Spring 2012 Show - October 5th, 2011. Paris, France.    4.) JENNIFER LOPEZ, The Grammy Awards - February 12th, 2011. Los Angeles, CA. Showing off her best assets, Jenny from the Block made jaws drop when she walked the red carpet in a super-short, super-sparkly Emilio Pucci minidress and Christian Louboutin peeptoe heels at the beginning of the year. Twins, a divorce, a new album, a new hosting gig, this was her year. When JLo wants you to know she's got everything under control, she will arrive.

3.) ADELE, Vogue UK Cover + Spread - October 2011. London, England. She made us cry with her at the Brits and in the pages of Vogue UK, we were stunned by Adele's classic beauty. Decked out in custom Burberry, the grace and elegance of the immensely talented singer impressed American Vogue editor Anna Wintour as well, earning Adele a March 2012 Vogue cover.

2.) EMMA STONE, Friends with Benefits Premiere - July 2011. New York City, NY. We've loved her ever since she made us laugh way back in her Superbad days, but now Emma Stone has become an Official Movie Star. Her flair for style first caught our attention this summer, when she wore this widely-panned Giambattista Valli top and skirt with Christian Louboutin heels to a premiere. Since then, the actress has turned up in one fashion stunner after another. We love her even more now for taking a risk and wearing what she likes!

1.) MILA KUNIS, The Academy Awards - February 27th, 2011. Los Angeles, CA. Mila may have lost the Best Supporting Actress award, but she won that night in a different way. The lilac lace Elie Saab dress and heels, paired with Neil Lane jewels perfectly suited the petite actress. Known for being a funnygirl, this look took Mila from whiny teenage Jackie to full-fledged Glamazon in the public eye, without a single bad angle. Not only was this our favorite of Oscar Night 2011, but for the entire year.
