A Blast From the Past: Summer Fashion Faux Pas
The most memorable summer trends in recent history that we wish we could forget!

Fashion trends are similar to the circle of life; they’re born into the fashion world, live for a season or two, die down or disappear, then they’re reborn a few years later. There are trends we love and grab inspiration from, like the reemergence of '60s and '70s that is currently trending. There are also those we loathe and wish we could forget (c’mon we’ve all had a moment or two). Needless to say, we have brought it upon ourselves at Joonbug to remind you of a few of the worst summer trends in recent fashion history that you can take as a reminder of why these fashion faux pas are in the past and need not be recreated this summer 2012!

In 2005, The Dukes of Hazzard came out with a newer rendition featuring Jessica Simpson. Not only was the movie a failed attempt at bringing back a 1970’s classic, but it also brought with it the fashion faux pas of that summer: the daisy dukes ensemble. Extra short shorts and high boots were a big hit that year despite the fact that the look was uncomfortable and unflattering on any body shape!

Gladiator sandals were a huge hit in 2007 and have been seen everywhere from the catwalk to the sidewalks. This look can be a great casual addition to your summer look, but when overdone, it becomes a fashion faux pas. The extra-long gladiator sandals are simply unflattering. They draw attention to our calves and can even create the illusion that our legs are bigger than they actually are. If you're going to attempt to pull off  gladiator sandals, here's a tip: don’t rock a pair that goes past your ankles.

The Fanny Pack: We all remember this fashion faux pas from the '80s and most of us wish it would have stayed in that era, however, this “trend” made its way back in 2008 and has been scarcely seen on the runway since then. Unless you are a mom driving her mini van to a carnival in 1989, ditch this look! Don’t be fooled by the high-end renditions that have been coming out by big designers touted as its more fashionable identity as the “belt purse."

Fringe is an element that needs to stick to cowboy vests, flapper dresses, and some accessories. This is not something that should be splashed all over your beachwear for 2 reasons. First, the extra bulk it can put on the top and bottom can be unflattering to any figure. Second, it will most likely look like a bad attempt at a 'sexy' Halloween costume. We don’t even need to go into further explanation behind this horrible summer trend; our only question is, how did it come to be a trend in the first place? Keep the fringe away from the beach this summer ladies!

No Stella, no!

What’s worn in Hawaii stays in Hawaii. The Hawaiian tee that became so big during the spring and summer of 2010 was confusion to all when this infamous tourist vacation essential made its appearance on the runway. This look was a tacky attempt at casualwear that should have been banished long ago. We beg you all, please don’t bring it back this summer!
