Fashion's Night Out to Rescue Struggling Industry
No need to fear, Wintour is here!

The fashion world is taking President Obama’s lead and producing a stimulus plan of its own in the midst of the failing economy. Fashion’s Night Out, organized by the Barack Obama of fashion Anna Wintour, is an event meant to encourage shoppers to spend money on designer clothing that has been left by the wayside, in exchange for the lucrative prospect of saving money. According to Women’s Wear Daily, this night long retail therapy lust-fest will be infused with a plethora of events including parties, live music, freebies, and designer/celebrity appearances. In New York Ctiy, stores such as Neiman Marcus, Macy’s and Lord&Taylor will be extending their store hours. Fashion’s Night Out has also expanded into international territory as shops in Paris, Greece, Rome, India and Beijing line up to participate in the festivities.

Not coincidentally, Fashion’s Night Out takes place on September 10th, the first day to kick off New York Fashion Week. It seems the intention is to take advantage of the excitement surrounding the Bryant Park shows and translate it into consumer spending on high-priced rags. However, having money is still a necessary aspect in buying clothes and the people who don’t have it may take advantage of Fashion Night Out’s incentives, and still end up not spending. Despite this fact, the event is more of a psychological ploy than anything because, according to Anna Wintour, everyday people need to remember “just how wonderful shopping can be.”
