Hairably Offensive: 5 Hair Sins to Avoid

We're not sure which season is more brutal on our hair, winter or summer. Both bring extreme weather and temperatures that make our locks look like a hot mess. From the humidity in the summer to the icy rain and snowfall in the winter, our mane is all over the place. There are some days not even the best products can save our heads. Sometimes it's out of our control. However, there are some hair faux pas we can control (at least most of them).

Here are some hair no-no's that never work, no matter how trendy they may become.

Mullets

The "fashion" mullet continues to make appearances as "cool and edgy." But it's really just bad. Our advice is to not let any hairdresser give you a mullet no matter how "funky and hip" they tell you it is. I assure you, people will just think you got a terrible haircut --or gum in your hair and had to cut it off. Just say no to the "fashion" mullet.

Too Much Product

The Jersey Shore boys clearly didn't get the memo that your hair is not supposed to be as hard as your abs. Pauly D's awkward clown mushroom head is a clear reminder to us all to step away from the hair product. No girl or guy wants to run their fingers over a Brillo pad.

Frizz

Ugh. This one is so hard to avoid. Especially if you have any sort of curl in your hair. The best way to combat frizz is to keep your hair as moisturized as possible. Also, try a brazilian keratin treatment to tame your tresses while still keeping your natural wave. Another great tip is to only dry your hair to about 80% and then wrap it in a low bun and allow it to air dry. You'll be amazed at the frizz-free soft wave this technique produces. Also, try drying your hair the night before. By morning, it will be chilled out and your natural oils will help tame frizz.

Bad Buzzer

I know Kanye (and numerous rappers/athletes) made the "artistic" buzz cut cool for guys, but for girls, it has us mostly tilting our heads in a "WTF?" fashion. Especially when guys take it to the brows. (Uhm, did you all learn nothing from Vanilla Ice?) Final verdict: Leave  the fleur de lis on the walls where it belongs.

Bad Weave

Britney Spears showed the world what happens when a weave goes wrong. Apparently, you lose your mind and shave your head bald. Ladies, if you're going to do extensions, please maintenance them properly. Don't let them grow out and get greasy and tangled. Be sure before you buy them, you're willing to spend time and money on upkeep.

Brassy Color

Orange brassy hair isn't cute on anyone except a tabby cat. If you're naturally dark-haired and want that J-LOesque hair color, do not attempt this at home or at your local Super Cuts! You will fail and turn out looking scarier than Carrot Top. Leave the major color changes to the experts or you could end up brassy. Even worse --your hair could fall out. When attempting a major color change, ask friends for recommendations, go to the best possible person you can find. This is not the time for Groupon! Trust us!
