The right accessories will definitely make your ensemble stand-out from the fashionable crowd; and many of us look to our favorite celebrities for style inspiration. A designer that's taking the jewelry scene by storm is Jane Basch. It was especially fabulous to see one of Jane’s special designs on Entertainment Tonite worn by the beautiful Samantha Harris! Jane’s designs have also been worn by ‘hot’ celebrities such as Christina Applegate, Ashley Tisdale, Demi Moore, Debra Messing and featured in many top fashion magazines such as Lucky! The wonderful aspect to Jane’s jewelry is that you need not be a celebrity to enjoy your very own custom-created Jane Basch jewelry piece because all of her collections are priced well with impeccable craftsmanship (or should I say crafts-womanship).
I had the opportunity to chat with this successful designer to find out more about her style aesthetic, what inspires her, and advice for other women out there looking to make it in the fashion/accessory industries!
Dana: Tell me about your Jane Basch jewelry collection and how it all began?
Jane: I designed clothing before I started designing jewelry. I started working with jewelry when I got married and went into business with my husband. The brand started 6 years ago after I had back surgery and everybody was still pulling on me to do everything and I couldn’t walk. I realized how amazing women are and how we really keep it all together. I wanted to create a tribute to all of the women that I know and those I don’t know. The company has been manufacturing personalized jewelry for 60 years in the US. When I realized what sold most were the monogrammed pieces, I decided to stay with what we do best and add my twist to it. All of my pieces have a gift, all of the pieces come with a branded heart for the love that we all have in our hearts. An extra pearl added to other pieces -- some little piece added that makes us unique, but makes my customer feel really pretty when they wear the jewelry.
Dana: Jane: stars such as Demi Moore, Debra Messing and Christina Applegate wear your custom designs. Can you tell me more about working with celebrities and some of the amazing pieces you have designed for them?
Jane: I think that it's nice that celebrities wear my jewelry but honestly my jewelry is for everyday people. The mother who goes to work and supports her children-- for the "normal" people. I get that celebrities wear the jewelry and it's a big deal, but my big deal is when my customers can buy themselves a piece and give themselves a gift. I don’t want to be the jeweler to the stars --I want to be the jeweler to every woman!

Arm Candy Bracelet
Dana: What's new for Spring/Summer 2012?
Jane: Spring and Summer 2012 is all about COLOR, COLOR, COLOR! We did great
beaded bracelets personalized of course you can buy them individually or in sets of three. I have also continued mixing metals with gold and silver. My version of color blocking. We will also be showing alligator bracelets for summer and fall in bright colors. And of course, all of the beaded pieces.
Dana: What are some of your own design influences?
Jane: Most of the design influences come from fashion. I still love fashion and I love to look at the runway pictures and see what is in the stores. I also have to follow the jewelry trends if there is something that is hot we make it. But we will do our little twist on it. My goal is always to look unique and not look like everybody else. I literally am designing in my head all day and night -- it is a little strange, but for me there is great comfort in that space.
Dana: What advice do you have for the women out there looking to make it in the fashion/jewelry industry and business in general?
Jane: I think that for women it is very hard to hear our own voices. Sometimes you have to sit quietly and be sure that what you really want is to be in this business. I was very blessed that I had a company behind me, but I still had my doubts and as all creative people have my doubts daily. As soon as one collection is finished I panic that I can't make another one. Follow your heart and stay true to yourself. And never look at another designer and think they are so much better than you are. I have been known to torture myself with that and it's not fun. Enjoy the journey! We are all very blessed to be given the ability to create and share beauty with other people so we have to respect that gift in ourselves.
Dana: Where can we find your jewelry collections?
Jane: I host chic trunk shows at boutiques such as Fred Segal. Our jewelry is also sold all over the country, but all can be purchased on
www.janebasch.com. We are big on customer service - so go to the site and call us with any questions! It's all about
you.
