It’s safe to say that at some point or another—could have been years ago, for us it was yesterday—all of us fashionistas have dreamed about being a princess. Thanks to Disney, our fairytale fantasies have taken every form from Parisian (provincial) princess to sweet sleeping beauty. All of which involve a gorgeous gown and a handsome prince, of course. It seems the collaboration of Disney princesses and fairytale fashion would result in endless inspiration and complete success. In a moment of genius design inspiration and carefully calculated timing—we’re about to find out. 

Who better to test this theory than a designer whose footwear has been making us feel like royalty for two decades, Christian Louboutin? Fit for a queen and thus, a princess by association, Louboutin has accepted the ultimate fairytale-inspired challenge to design a real-life pair of glass slippers. In conjunction with the release of Cinderella Diamond Edition this fall, Louboutin will debut a red-soled, crystal clear interpretation of the celebrated symbol. Although not exactly a novel idea, see Marc Jacobs and Maison Martin Margiela versions, we imagine this mash-up of shoe icons to produce the definitive pair. “I have been so lucky to have crossed paths with Cinderella, an icon who is so emblematic to the shoe world as well as the dream world,” Louboutin tells WWD.

Joining other princess-inspired fashion like Disney Bridal’s wedding gowns and Mouawad’s engagement ring collection, (talk about a fairytale wedding!) the glass slippers offer us common maidens to cash in on the dream of experiencing storybook romance. And we can’t wait for the reveal. Will they be crystal encrusted? Diamond studded? Constantly surrounded by magical shimmering stardust? The limited-edition design will be available this summer, and while there’s no word yet on the price tag, we’re going to assume it will be as steep as his stilettos.
