Lunch With Lartigue
Brooklyn Museum Takes on Fashion; Kate Spade and books; Carol Marie Launch at Avenue; AX Model dies; Anna Sui tights to come and more!

Thursday, a selection of Brooklyn's best and most prominent figures were invited to enjoy the premiere of High Style at the Brooklyn Museum. Participants, including Diane Von Furstenberg, Chloe Sevigny, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Band of Outsiders, set the tone for the exhibit, which was followed by a cocktail hour, dinner and after party, a glorious bar, and a twenty foot Andy Warhol pinata filled with Hostess snacks. Lim's booth was lead by a foursome of drag queens giving out life advice and leather bowties to anyone who dared to approach.

The after party was reminiscent of a school carnival; Band of Outsiders tangled with makeup; allowing guests to channel their inner child by way of face paint. Any available open space was crowded with dancers who moved to sets from live bands and a coordinated deejay. The guests...well the guests were by far more entertaining than the carnival-inspired after party itself. I bumped into a divine makeup artist who took after designer Karl Lagerfeld for the event; black on white attire, ponytail and gloves required frequent visits to the powder room for maintainence.

If one thought the party as the cool hangout spot for the night, a visit outside to the smoking section would beg to differ. During my break, I bumped into the co-host of the night, the reps from Opening Ceremony. As a reporter, it's considered natural to pry for information, however my attempts failed as the girls kept mum. However, I did managed to get a tip to look out for a future collaboration for the label with Pendleton; fabulously known for their luxurious wools and native blanket inspirations. An amazing adventure through entertainment, art and inspiration ended with cherry blossoms available for guests to take upon departure.

Meanwhile, Thursday evening was shared by designer Kate Spade, who supported photographer Jeannette Montgomery Barron and the celebration of her book My Mother's Clothes, a nod to her late mothers 5 year struggle with Alzheimer's. Still images compose a fashion diary of Barons' mother's prized possessions;  garments - ranging from couture to swimwear - were delicately photographed in various environments. Guests were encouraged to shop, as 10 percent of sales went to the NY Chapter of National Alzheimer's Association.

Actress Leighton Meester joined co-designers Heather Marie White and Jennifer Carol Kramer at hotspot Avenue on Monday for the launch of Carol Marie jewelry. The former W Magazine and Marie Claire girls created an ethnic antique-inspired spin on bracelets, necklaces and earrings, designed to be layered for a sophisticated downtown boho vibe. Afterward came a performance from Universal/Motown Records' Cara Salimando, beverages courtesy of Pabst Blue Ribbon and encouragement to consumers to check out Henri Bendels and preview the collection.

People are still buzzing about the split of designer Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone. Page Six reported the split after it was noticed Martone didn't attend Robert Duffy's (Jacobs' right-hand man) wedding last week in Connecticut; At Parson's Annual Fashion Benefit, Vera Wang spoke with excitement as she prepares to design for David's Bridal "outside the $20,000 range."; 24 year old model Ambrose Olsen succumbed to an unknown cause last Thursday. The model's work included Armani Exchange ads, Louis Vuitton, and YSL among others; Cyberworld hit a bump yesterday when famed blogger Tavi learned her blog was shut down from what people assumed was due to her posting of a 1998 Yohji Yamamota Spring Campaign featuring a nude Maggie Rizer. Google confirmed that they  had mistakenly shut down the pint-sized ingenue's Blogger account; Anna Sui is prepping for her collaboration with Leg Resource for a line of tights inspired by her runway collection. Items will be available this fall, priced between $20-40; H&M will channel music festivals by way of prints for fringed tees and bags, tents and a sleeping bag. The campaign for the launch was shot by Dan Martensen, featuring Lizzie Jagger and Lou Doillon; Giles Deacon will replace Estrella Arch at Emanuel Ungaro, whilst the labels menswear designer Franck Boclet, leaves the label less than a week after Arch. The label will focus solely on womenswear until Boclet is replaced; New York Times Magazine veteran and New York Magazine Photo Director Jody Quon will join Stefano Tonchi at his newly appointed publication W Magazine as Creative Director. Tonchi tells WWD, "Jody has a background that goes beyond just beauty and fashion - she knows photojournalism, she knows images. . . I see her as somebody who cares as much about the cover of a magazine as the last page of a magazine."
