It’s official; Macy’s fashionistas sure know how to throw a great party. In celebration of the brand new INC collection and Editor at Large Kate Young, celebrity stylist and fashionista in her own right, the store hosted a stylish soiree last night. It was fashion with a view, if you will, at Le Bain atop The Standard Hotel. Against the backdrop of the Hudson River and New York City’s sparkling lights, the collection was presented on mannequins and a few stylish live models. But we’ll discuss that in a minute; let’s talk more about the party.
Champagne and more flowed from the open bar and hors d’oeuvres were circulated by an eclectic group of denim and nautical stripe clad staff. The press pit buzzed with flashing bulbs as arriving socialites posed for photo ops in front of the Kate Young INC media backdrop. And speaking of socialites—Lydia Hearst-Shaw, Harley Viera-Newton, Fabiola Beracasa, and Arden Wohl were some of the celebrity guests spotted, along with model Chrissy Teigen and stylist June Ambrose. Street style was off the charts, of course. We saw tons of trendy tights, maxi skirts, and—the best accessory of the season—adorable ankle booties. The event wouldn’t be complete without a fabulous DJ, so “It Girl” Hannah Bronfman kept the party bumping with a party-worthy playlist.
Following the premiere Editor at Large campaign, which featured the fabulous Anna Dello Russo, this season’s INC collection is curated by one of “Hollywood’s Most Powerful Stylists,” Kate Young. Young steps in to fill some pretty big shoes as she lends her “edgy and sweet” aesthetic to Macy’s exclusive contemporary line. But she’s got more than adequate credentials with celebrity clientele, including Natalie Portman, Rachel Weisz, Alicia Keys, and Selma Blair. Twelve looks edited and styled by Young were featured on models and mannequins alongside a high definition loop of the collection’s video campaign.
The collection features dresses and separates that appeal to a range of styles. Printed dresses, romantic blouses, and cropped jackets are all appropriate for casual daywear and black denim, embellished tops, and bold platform pumps offer edgier options. We must say—we loved the shoes. In leopard print and color blocked red and cognac, the chunky platform heels are exactly what we want to step out in this spring. Oh-so-popular polka dots, tribal embroidery, and funky tie-dye details kept carried a season-appropriate carefree vibe through the line. Follow Kate’s advice and mix the line’s feminine shapes and tough details for a perfect spring style. The accessories were super cute too. Although not debuting until March, you can expect great chandelier earrings, coral and turquoise beading, and chunky statement cuffs.
