We had a chance to chat with Triple F.A.T Goose clothing about past, present, future, and their upcoming tour. Check out our exclusive interview and what's to come for the label!
What is the inspiration behind the name/brand?
TFG (http://www.triplefatgoose.com) started off primarily as an outerwear brand (Triple F.A.T. Goose) back in the late 80s. We brought it back a few years ago and launched a sportswear collection to complement it. There are two divisions to the brand, TFG for sportswear and Triple F.A.T. Goose for the down jackets. The reaction to both labels has been great so far. We are inspired by European contemporary influences and also by elements of music. For example, our spring 2012 collection comes complete with twill tape emblazoned with the phrase “Empowering Indie Bands Everywhere.” That statement is actually a key part of our brand positioning for coming seasons. I know a lot of fashion companies collaborate with bands but we’re actually doing it on a much deeper level.
First off, we’re kicking off a TFG Tour featuring bands and the TFG collection. The first event is October 10th at Tammany Hall in NY. The bands playing the event include MNDR, Dinosaur Feathers, and Edelweiss. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.tfgtour.com.
Second, we’ve created a social platform called TFG Rep (http://www.tfgrep.com). The site basically allows bands to collect commissions by distributing unique coupon codes to their fans. If someone makes a purchase at http://www.triplefatgoose.com using their coupon code, they will earn a commission on the sale. It’s a really easy way for bands to make money.
Where do you see TFG in the next 5 years?
We are looking to grow this brand in steps. I think most great things are not rushed; they grow over time. In the next 5 years, we’d like to increase distribution in the right channels and on a global scale. Right now we have partners in Europe, Canada, and Japan but we’re looking to add upon that in future seasons.
What should we expect to see from TFG for Spring/Summer 2012?
I can definitely say that every season our designs are getting stronger and stronger. As a brand we are really developing a lifestyle and building a collection around it. In terms of Spring / Summer 2012 you can expect clean, contemporary looks but with a fresh spin. Much of the S/S 2012 collection is a departure from what we have done in the past. It’s a dramatic improvement in my opinion.
Have you stayed true to your original idea or concept of TFG?
Yes, I think so. The original incarnation of TFG was very much music influenced. Some of these design elements are apparent in the collection today but reinterpreted for a new generation.
Could we one day expect a line of sunglasses for TFG for those long arctic days of the midnight sun?
Yes! We are looking to expand our product assortment beyond clothing. I think accessories is a great category that we are just starting to look into. Expect sunglasses, bags, footwear, etc in seasons to come.
