At last night’s Mr. Porter Suits & Style event, the combination of cocktails, television and fashion created the perfect way to spend a Tuesday evening.  At first glance, onlookers walking around the High Line probably wondered why men in check shirts and bow ties, holding big, white umbrellas were escorting people along the walkways. Or why there were women with clipboards manning the roped off entrance; or even why  were there 1960s hits blaring from the speakers inside? Little did they know it was a cocktail party and fashion show hosted by Mr. Porter and Vanity Fair Magazine to celebrate the USA hit T.V. series, Suits.

After one season down and one on the way, Suits has become a big hit with over 24 million viewers nationwide- with its biggest fans residing in NYC and wearing Mr. Porter. However, the witty characters and dramatic plot lines aren’t the only reasons it has picked up so much buzz. The styles worn on the show are spot on too. The Mr. Porter Post put it beautifully: “…a suit is a piece of sartorial armor that can serve a man through every battle and triumph he faces- from the bar to the boardroom.” Hence, a fashion show dedicated to the series transpired.

Excitement hit the crowed as the starring actors, Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams, took their seats front and center. The show started with clips of the Suits season finale and excerpts of the season premier (airing June 14th) on flat screens lining the runway. Black Keys tunes played as the models strutted out one by one sporting high end designs like YSL suiting, briefcases by Mulberry, gloves by Gucci, and white, converse sneakers to give it all a lighthearted touch.

Check and plaid seemed to be the theme of the evening, as most of the get ups contained the preppy pattern in shirts, ties, and blazers (that’s right, checked blazers). The styles were cleverly put together with crème and blue cable knit cardigans over black and grey suiting, New Balance sneakers paired with cropped khakis, and denim coats atop shirts and ties. Our favorite look however, was like love at first sight; a crisp, white, Gucci tuxedo paired with a white Lanvin button-down, brown Stubbs & Wootton slippers, and a beautiful Archer Adams umbrella complete with a silver alloy resin lion head- bliss!

At Suits & Style, the fashion wasn’t only taking place on the runway; the guests donned trendy looks as well. While walking through the sea of style, we noticed a pattern taking place among the men’s fashion: linen or khaki suiting, colored shorts with long sleeve button-downs, thick frame glasses galore, and lots and lots of bowties. Just like the fashion of the evening, the event as a whole was stylish, well thought out, and successfully put together.

Along with the show, the USA network and Mr. Porter are making online shopping just a little easier than it already is with their newest iPhone app collaboration, Suit Yourself. In the app you can build your own wardrobe creating styles that embody those of Suit’s two main characters, Harvey and Mike. Once that’s done, shop and share the looks with friends and family!
