Kara Laricks came into the competition as an unlikely winner, as she started out designing ties, and truthfully, we didn’t even think she’d make it past the first round! But thanks to the fashion industry panel of judges (Jessica Simpson, John Varvatos, & Nicole Richie) Laricks was saved and ultimately stepped her game up, improving by leaps and bounds episode after first episode, and was finally pronounced the winner.
We love her edgy look and the fact that although she seemed to produce avant garde looks with high-end appeal in the beginning episodes, the former 4th grade school teacher showed us her diversity in designs by the end. She now has exclusive signature collections filling the racks at H&M, Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue. What more could an aspiring designer want?!
The best part, she expressed, was the responses she received from former students. According to WWD, Laricks explained that her students' excited reactions made up for “all the times they told me I had crazy hair in class…More than anything, I am glad they see with real hard work, you can really achieve what you want to do.”
Congratulations Kara Laricks! We cannot wait to see what’s in store for you next!
